Hello,
I am trying to drag one of the preset images from the Templates selection list to my movie tmeline.
When i drag the preset image onto the timeline, I program displays a crossed-out circle and will not drop the image.
This has never been a problem for me before.
Hopefully someone has a sugesstion for me to apply to this problem.

Hi Marc.
The stop icon showing is normal.
Some templates can require a lot of free tracks underneath the object it is applied to. Make sure you have plenty of available tracks spare.

Which 'preset image' are you trying to add to the timeline?
In addition to @CubeAce reply, this sounds like you are trying to drag an 'image' on to the timeline without a video or image object to be selected.
Some template objects have to be attached to a selected video or image object, others which can be added as both standalone or attached to an object usually display a message warning you of this.

Thank-you Johnebaker and Cubeace for getting back to me on my post. Johnebaker, you described my error in process, basically i was not paying attention to whether or not I had a track filled beneath the 'preset image'. i figured that out after a bit or trial and error. cheers guys.
