Dragging a WMP movie (VOB) from desktop to Magix editor makes it out of sync.

I have transferred some vhs footage to my pc and it is in windows movie player (VOB) format, i simply drag this onto the timeline in Magix movie maker pro MX but when i play it it is now out of sync when it was fine before i dragged it in MX.So the process of transferring to Magix distorts it, any ideas why anyone, thanks.

Any reason why you did not originally capture the VHS footage straight into MEP?  I do this regularly and often and have never seen the problem you have!

However, you say the file is VOB format, which indicates it is actually a DVD format file. How did you "create" this VOB file?  (Following on my first paragraph, once the original VHS footage has been digitised and captured within MEP/VPX - and BTW at this stage it is .avi format - after editing, inserting chapter markers etc., I then have MEP/VPX export it and create the VOB (and other) files needed to burn a DVD.)

I wonder whether your file is actually .wmv format, (Windows Media Video)?  Again, this should not be a problem playing in sync in MEP.  (I assume the "sync" is audio to video?)

As you may gather, I'm somewhat clutching at straws here.  Perhaps what we need is a step-by-step account of exactly how you are transferring the VHS footage (including some information about the actual hardware used to digitise the analogue tape; you've already given us the basic specs of your computer.)  What format is the transferred files?  If you're not sure MediaInfo or GSpot (both free downloads) will tell you.

One other thought: VOB files are basically MPEG format files.  Whenever MEP/VPX "imports" MPEG files it will almost certainly "want" to index them for faster access.  This can take quite some time if the file is a large one but it is worth the wait.  In MEP, under "Program Settings>Video/Audio" there is an option to "Automatically create frametable during import".  By default it is unticked, I think.  it might be worth ticking that box and then reimporting your footage, just to see if that setting helps to resolve your problem.  (My experience in VPX is that whether or not that setting is ticked the program will automatically create the frametable, so I don't know whether changing that setting will help you or not.)

Thanks for the advice Jeff, i'm using Dazzle dvd recorder dvc 100 from Pinnacle to transfer to pc from vhs.when you say capture straight into MEP, i dont see an option on mep for this like on an older version.I tried ticking the frametable option too but it made no difference.I'm just updating my MEP now, maybe this will help?.........................................................It did...as you can see i'm not very good with this yet .Still learning.

Thanks again, it seems to have worked though :)

Glad to hear you've resolved the problem but capture into MEP may not be possible because you are using the Dazzle recorder!  There have been a number of posts on this forum which suggest that the Dazzle really only plays well with its own software!  You might want to check this; you would use the MEP "Record" facility (the large red button below the Preview screen), choose "DV Camera" or possibly "Video" and see if MEP can "see" your Dazzle device.
