@Serban-GHEORGHIU

Welcome to the Magix users forum.

What you have downloaded is the Magix Download Manager for MMS 2024. It is NOT the installation files, it is the file that, when run, connects to the Magix server and downloads the actual installation files, which it then runs for you.

At what point are you seeing this error message (and please quote it in full)? The most common reason for the download being blocked or the installation not starting is the user's firewall or antivirus blocking the connection.

So, as a first step, try disabling either or both of these and then try again to install the program. If you are successful don't forget to re-enable your firewall and antivirus once installation is complete.

If you still cannot install the program (having made certain you have disabled those security systems) then please post back with full details of exactly what you see on screen. A screenshot of any error message is very helpful!

Hi Jeff and thanks for the input. Trying to install Movie Studio after downloading the correct 2024 installer post-subscription. Have ensured both Defender and BitDefender are disabled and logged in as administrator. Have run the installer as administrator and when the installation mouse changed immediately I have a screen giving me the options to abort or retry with an explanation mark and no other explanation. PrintsScreen attached. Can you advise please. Thanks a lot for help.

Hi.

I have noticed in your image that you have three exe. files that if they have been installed could be hijacking your video drivers and possibly stopping the program from installing as they may have to share dll files common to those types of programs.

Open Task Manager and search to see if any of those programs are running in the background and shut them down and try again. They can be shut down with Task Manager. Just right click an offending task and ask it to 'End Task'. If they are running when you try to start the program after they may still block the program from running. They may not. You will have to see.

Hi,

Try installing without being Administrator. That trick is usually for starting the program when there are certain problems with start up, not for installing the program.

Thanks for your advices. Have tried to install both as admin and without after restarting the laptop. No success. I have disabled both defender and bitdefender vpn and again same result. The message curiously tells me no reason, just to abort or cancel. Looked to task manager and see no installation program going on. Any other suggestions. Thank you for supporting me in this curious situation.

Hi.

You didn't say whether you had tried disabling the apps for your camera and slide scanner. If you did and it didn't work, try uninstalling all of them and try loading the program again, then if the program installs and runs reinstall the programs one by one and see if there are any conflicts.

I think it also about time we asked for your computer system specs in full. CPU, GPU(s),type and make, ram amount, Windows build and GPU driver versions.

Hi

. . . . Have ensured both Defender and BitDefender are disabled . . . .

In which order did you disable them?

Disable Bit Defender completely first, this will force Microsoft Defender to be active.

In Microsoft Defender temporarily disable the Controlled folder access option and Real-time protection features.

Run the installer again.

Turn on the disabled features again when finished.

Thank you all for your advices which are well received. I"m sorry for the delay in replying but actually away until end of next week. To recap, I have initially disabled all bitdefender programme and also windows 11 own defender antivirus. Tried to install both as admin and directly after a fresh restart. No success and actually same message on screen. Re-tried both after cleaning user temp files, windows temp files and task manager for unimportant programmes in start up. No success and same message on screen. Following your advices above, I realize now that the film scanner was plugged in and recognized well in devices, SilverFast installed but not started yet and my MFP printer and scanner HP 400 X was still started in the system background. I assume that using Twain on this scanners may also interfere so upon returning home I will disable these devices and see what's happening. If these steps will not allow me to install I really do not know what else to do. The alternative is to clean install everything and start with Magix after OS install, which is indeed a desperate step to take and quite an action for somebody that does have no other alternative for movie rendering. Thank you all for the advice so far.

Hi.

I do have other applications that could grab the video card graphics drivers including two photo editing applications, a photo scanner, as well as making sure things like Skype are disabled in the Startup menu. They are all disabled and cannot run on startup. I keep my third party startup applications in Windows to a minimum.

They are

Hi

. . . . I assume that using Twain on this scanners may also interfere . . . .

Something appears to be preventing the Download Manager from starting, it is unlikely, though not impossible, that it is the TWAIN driver that is causing the issue.

The error message has been seen before with other Magix programs. I would suggest you raise a Support ticket with Magix, link is at the top of this page then:

  • Select Movie Studio the scroll down to the bottom of the page
  • Select Contact support
  • On the next page select Send E-mail
  • Complete the following pages giving your computer specification Windows version and build number and a description of the issue.
