Does the Alesis QX25 Midi Keyboard Controller work with Magix Music Maker 2014 Premium?

wagstar wrote on 10/11/2014, 8:54 AM

Hi, I have the chance of buying this controller but not sure if it would work or not on my music maker, I have the LPK25 but for some reason my PC won't even accept the fact I've plugged it in! But it is time for a new one and I've been offered one quite cheap but can't find anywhere where it tells me if it would work or not. After all, a good deal is only a good deal if it's any use to you, and two non working Midi Controllers is no use to me!!! Thank you to anyone who can help. All the best. Scott.

What version of Windows are you using and is it 32 or 64 bit?

John

Hi John, I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. It did work but now won't get recognized by PC. Device Manager tells me the usb ports are all working fine and they're no probs with the PC.

Hi

. . . . It did work but now won't get recognized by PC . . . .

That could mean either:

  1. the driver has been corrupted or changed/updated with a Windows update.

  2. the particular USB it is plugged into is overloaded and not supplying sufficient power - if the keyboard has its own power supply then this one should not happen - unless . . . .

  3. another device on the other port of the same hub is now drawing too much power - this can happen particularly with mice.

Note: with 2 and 3 it will still appear that the USB hubs / ports are OK.

With the MIDI keyboard connected, in Device Manager you should see a reference to the MIDI keyboard, IIRC it will appear under Human Interface Devices.

Try reinstalling the drivers, if that fails, uninstall the device, plug it into a different port/hub and let it detect again.

HTH

Hi John, thanks for the info, the LPK25 is USB powered so overloading may well be possible then. The midi-controller itself is described as "Plug and Play" with no need for drivers, but having said that I googled "Driver update for Akai LPK25" and there is a driver update available, however it's a third party install and it insists on putting some "PC Doctor" software on the computer along with the update, so i haven't done it, as it's third party and i don't need the PC Doctor!! With the possibility of it being corrupted during a windows update is frustrating, because if thats the case then even if i get it working i will be thinking how long until it stops working again! Thank you again for your help, it is greatly appreciated. Cheers. Scott.
