@CHUCK-WHITE

Hi and welcome to the forum

. . . . I am trying to remove duplicate photos, is there a option in the program to do this? . . . .

Yes it is under the Search for files and folders function as shown below

More information is available under the programs help Help, Contents.

Where are the duplicates listed if you have "List Search Results" selected?

@CarlosJ

Welcome to the Magix forums.

Did you read the post from @johnebaker directly above yours? If you did, and have followed the instructions in the Help file, did you allow Photo Manager to fully complete its search?

I did. This is what I'm doing...

1. Go to the folder view on the right , select a folder, and wait for the thumbnails to populate.
2. With the desired folder selected, I click on Database-->Search in Database.
3. I click on the Search for Similar Photos tab and select "In Current Folder." Everything else selected is per the screen shot.
4. I click on Search, it runs...and I don't see a list appear.

<<EDIT>>

And the app crashes every so often...just closes.

And...does the app have to have a photo selected to search for duplicates? I'd like to be able to have it search all my photos and show me all the ones that are or may be duplicates...without selecting a source photo. Does that make sense?

I am also interested in the last question posed by Carlos J: does the software allow a scan of all photos and then highlight all duplicates? This was the main reason I purchased the Deluxe, as the advertising implies this to be the case. I did not read anywhere in the promo material that the software would require me to select an individual image and then search for a duplicate. If this is the only option for searching for duplicates then it should be made clearer.

BobH, one of the main reasons I to purchased Photo Manager Deluxe was because I was led to believe it had the ability to scan all my photos and identify duplicates. It is not feasible for me to select each individual image and search for duplicates.

@Robert-Hummel @CarlosJ

In order for Photo Manager to successfully find any duplicate images the user must first select a folder and one image as the "search criteria".

The following is from the installed Help file:

Find similar photos and duplicates

This feature lets you search for pictures that are similar to the selected photo, as well as search for duplicates and similar photo subjects.

Step 1: First, select a starting image.

Step 2: Click on "Selection" and select "Search for similar photos, find duplicates and similar motifs" or click on "Search" in the main MAGIX Photo Manager Deluxe interface.

The following dialog will open:

Step 3: Under "Search for", specify whether you want to start the duplicate search or the similarity search.

Step 4: Under "Search in the database" specify where MAGIX Photo Manager Deluxe should search for similar photos.

Step 5 Under "Results", specify how the results should be displayed.

Depending on the number of photos, the search can take some time. At the end, you will see a list of similar photos in the format selected by you.

Hi,

Could you each explain exactly what you want the program to do?

  1. Do you want to find duplicate files, meaning photos that have the same file name?
  2. Or, do you want to find duplicate photos that do not have the same file name but have the same or similar content?

1. Finding duplicate file names is simple without using Photo Manager Deluxe.

2. Yes. I'd like to be able to select one or more pictures, then have the software search selected folder(s) for the same/similar content.

Having to select 1 photo, and then have PMD search for duplicates, makes this feature the most useless function of all. Not only that but PMD searches only one drive, so you can't even use this feature to search the "computer" for duplicates.
