Does Movie Edit Pro import sequenced image videos?

I use CG software to produce videos. My preferred method of rendering is to sequenced images. Does Movie Edit Pro 17 support it? Currently I use Sony Vegas as my NLE (which supports it) but wanted to give Magix a try...but if it doesn't support sequenced image import...that would be a show stopper for me.

JonnyBravo,

Can be done!. If you select a group of images in the media pool you can import them all in one go. They will go onto the timeline in the order they are sorted in the media pool so make sure you have alpha sort (assuming sequential numbered files) rather than size or date etc. Under program settings is the option to set the length of in imported image so they can all be one frame long or whatever you want.

The only problem I've encountered (I use VPX not MEP) was trying to import 5000+ full HD 1920 x 1080 BMP files. The simple workaround there was to use 'frameserving' with virtualdub: http://www.virtualdub.org/index.html

You load the images into it, select frame serving, and save as a dummy avi file. This gets brought into MEP like any other video. Note there is no special vdub 'load images' option listed -- just load the first of a numbered sequence and the rest will follow.

Curious what CG software you use. I've done some with Cinema-4D etc but mostly write my own using BBC BASIC for Windows http://www.bbcbasic.co.uk/bbcwin/bbcwin.html. Some are completely CG individual frames but I also do some avi file input >> manipulate frames >> avi file output without the need of saving individual frame files along the way.

Carl

Thanks for the fast reply Carl. I installed the trial version so I'll give it a try. I appreciate the tips and work around.

I use Carrara 8 Pro and Blender. C4D is a fantastic app but right now I just can't justify the $3,500 investment, for the pakcage with dynamics.

I'm not $3,500 rich! I got a free C4D off of a computer graphics magazine cover DVD. It's animation export was limited to 640x480 IIRC, but there was an upgrade offer to an older version for less than $100 -- I think it was R6 when R9 had just been released. Similar deal with XFrog on another mag.

Now and then I have a look at Blender but don't need another learning curve right now!

Check out Chaoscope http://www.chaoscope.org/ for another freebie. To animate you use a 3rd party utility, Ani4Chaoscope, to generate a series of project files which the main program renders in batch mode. I wrote some additional utilities specifically to do rotations and stereo pairs:

I finally had a chance to load a sequenced image video. You are right, it can be done. I'll play around with it for a few days to see if I like it.

Thanks for the links and insight!
