Does MEP offer the feature of adding 'boxing-arena' style light flare?

Apollo89x wrote on 2/13/2022, 1:33 PM

Hello, I just wondered if MEP offers the feature of adding anything like ''boxing arena'' style lighting to videos?

*What I mean by that is flashing/flares of light, such as you get in WWE wrestling matches (Example: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7w8bdw)

I've had a look on youtube to try finding tutorials about if AfterEffects offer this, but cannot find anything; And so just wondered if MEP by any chance does?

@Apollo89x Hi, I tried playing the video in that link, it's quite a long video & no offence i hate wrestling so tried skipping through it but it wouldn't play well, can you upload a small part that includes the flashing/flares of light you mention, Use the arrow button next to the smiley in a new comment, you might find that people who can help wouldn't want to open that link, so you'll prob get a better response posting a short vid on here 👍

Apollo89x wrote on 2/13/2022, 2:26 PM

Hello and thanks.

That video wasn't really the best example tbh (as that's featuring an actual WWE-size stadium with the associated infastructure lights)...
Wheras my videos are shot with a black wall as background, and so would basically be looking for lights to flash around that (making it look more like a TV-style boxing arena).

So am basically just looking for a feature which adds flashing lights (kind of like disco lights) to video.

@Apollo89x I was asked about this a short while ago, i have plugins that will do this but they're expensive so i made a B/W mask for them, it's just a series of black & white images with Chroma key added, the top track is the same as the 3rd track except it has Glow on it which brightens the lighter parts, as it plays the B/W mask allows the top track to 'flash' through, MEP has a lens flare fx that could be applied as well or instead of, or any other fx,

This is that MP4 mask if you want to try it, it's 3840x2160 but will be fine on 1920x1080, Stretch it to speed it up or slow it down, when you don't want it to flash, just cut it & slide it along or remove it, only the 3rd unaltered track will show,

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NCuSzEGMRLK_LPmYyejMcmvDNnLcwjn3/view?usp=sharing

Apart from this i don't think there is an fx in MEP so you'll have to find a Flicker plugin,

Producer planet do stock video that could be used as an overlay.

Here is one.

Or at the stock video site Pond 5

A quick internet search would show more.

I tried making my own in MEP using a + sign with the text editor and then making it into a video file to add blur and anything else that would shape the letter. Then used size/position to expand and contract the sequence and then used speed to quicken the clip to a fifth of a second. I'm sure using paint or similar you could make a better shape.

@CubeAce I played with yours, i think your solution @Apollo89x might be Starburst, you might have to add your own lights, png white dots for eg.

(I selectively burred out your + sign just to remove it, sorry 😁) I added Glow & a couple of other Boris exposure fx to your vid to bring out the light points, all can be done with Vegas effects, glow, lighting etc, then added Starburst 👍 there's a few people taking photos that you can't see until the glow is added 🧐😉

@CubeAce yeah & BCC 😂😂😂 Starburst is Vegas & the other stuff is just a Glow, that's in Vegas, the Gaussian blur is is just a tiny mask to hide your + so that isn't needed, & Radial Exposure is pretty much just an exposure that has an oval mask like a vignette, i put that on to lighten the scene & to show the people a bit better 👍

I think the actual flash @Apollo89x was after was similar to the one in the video he posted.

I noticed a lot of similar flashes when watching the London Olympics diving events that put the divers off.

I was just seeing what I could do using MEP alone.

What I find fascinating is MEP and VPX can actually use additional codecs if another Magix owned program has them. (maybe not in all cases?) I wonder if they share dll.links or folders?

@CubeAce 👍 yeah i think i was being a bit lazy & i was supposed to be working, so creating a transparent avi seemed easier, but...😂🤦‍♂️ If you want anything else, if i can i'll see what i can do 👍

MagicYUV shows in MEP, that'll be why i could play that .mov file but i can't use it to export avi with transparency, I think the once the codecs are on the system anything can access them 🤷‍♂️

In Vegas i can open the Properties of the event on the timeline (,mov & avi) & change it's Alpha settings to Straight (Unmatted) making it transparent, can this be done in VPX?

CubeAce wrote on 2/14/2022, 1:53 PM

@Former user

Hi Gid.

I'm not sure VPX or MEP could use any codec from another program. Some codecs are not readily distributed across programs or perhaps the folder paths or ability for the program to recognise them as codecs is an issue. Some encoding codecs also have to have licence details attached to them for a given program.

I know the new version of VPX can handle Photoshop psd files which have layers but I'm not sure about mov.(which is a primarily an Apple container) and avi which is a Microsoft container. It may do one or both or neither. I have not had to use that function to date and I have VPX 11 which still has Mercalli V2 and Vegas stabilization and the main concept codec as well. So not in an actual hurry to upgrade that program just yet.

Also my Vegas Studio 16 handles mov. files better than my copies of MEP or VPX.

So Until I hear differently I am keeping my current programs as they are as they serve my older projects and file types I used to use.

@CubeAce I don't know why i can play that .mov file in MEP & VLC but you can't, I have a lot of plugins but the only thing i can assume is it's the MagicYUV that i got to run in Vegas,

It shows in MEP as a full bunch of files but only the reg RGB will export,

the rest give me a warning

Like you i'm fairly happy to stick to what i've got, with all the Boris stuff i've got so much to learn, so i don't want too rock the boat, V19 does the fx stuff, MagicYUV will render transparency, & as it's normally just me using them that's no problem, hopefully MEP will sort that Size/Position & Section thing out soon,

Yup.That's the Main concept codec that I have in VPX but it is missing in MEP 2022 and VPX 13.

I didn't try VPX 11.

Nope. Just tried. till the same missing codec warning.

Hi

. . . . I don't know why i can play that .mov file in MEP & VLC but you can't, I have a lot of plugins but the only thing i can assume is it's the MagicYUV that i got to run in Vegas . . . .

In the case of the video clip Ray could not import, the MagicYUV codec would suggest the AVI is encoded YUVA 4:4:4:4 which is not supported by the native codecs of MEP and VPX.

MediaInfo states the encoding and Codec Id - as M8RA on which I can find very little information

AVI encoded as RGBA is able to be imported by MEP and VPX and the alpha transparency is automatically applied.
