I would like to add a countdown timer, aprox. 5 minutes to my videos. Does Magix have a tool that can accomplish this or does anyone have any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Thanks!

I don't think there is anything built in (I've not got 17 but there's nothing in VPX2.5). Two suggestions:
A right click in the preview window gives you the option to 'Show time' so you might be able to do so on a blank five minute clip and then capture the preview playing with another program. MEP does include recording from the screen but can't do it to itself.
Use the MEP screen capture to record the standard Windows date and time property window (very small) or one of many programs available that display the time in bigger fonts which you could run and screen capture. If they only count up just reverse the clip in the editor.
