Does anyone know where to find royalty free music or open sourced music? Not file-sharing.

Does anyone know where I can find royalty-free music? Any open-sourced music? Not file-sharing.

I know someone who makes videos and photo slideshows. They have been using well-know music and the audio is cut off or the videos are taken down online.

Trying to teach them music production won't work. This person is only doing personal stuff not making profit from anyoens work.

Anyone on this site with something is ok too. Genres: Anything, but mostly, electonica, rock, pop, etc.

Thanks.

You may find find lots of good stuff in the music section of the Magix forums. I've asked for permission to use a few I found interesting and the composers were more than willing to contribute.

Hi,

Carl has given you a great suggestion.  There are many talented musicians here creating original material and the music categories that you mention are well represented in the show and discuss section.

I have asked for permission to use material from a number of artists on this site and have always met with enthisiatic and positive response to my requests the same way Carl has.

If you are looking for a subscription site where you actually have a royalty free license to use material in the event that you are challenged by youtube, I can suggest a few, but you will need to pay for these sites.

One comment, if your friend is putting up copyright music on YouTube and he or she does it too often the YouTube account could be cancelled.  Many publishing companies depending on the artist, the music popularity etc often will not request that your video be taken down if it does not appear that it is being used for commercial purposes, virtually all publishing house will shut down the video or at least the audio component if they think it is being used commercially.

Good Luck,

George
