Does anyone feel like it's cheating?

I'm referring to using premade loops from soundpools. I'm trying to keep away from them as I can't help feeling it's cheating. But I have to admit, I struggle making drum tracks manually as any slight timing errors are magnified by accumulative error along the timeline. I'm finding that it's best to do separate, very short drum blocks to avoid timing errors.

But especially with the other kinds of loops it's not really your work is it? I'd be interested to hear everyone's views on this.

Hi

. . . . Does anyone feel like it's cheating? . . . .

That depends on ones philosophy.

Have you tried writing the notes in the MIDI Editor for the drum synths/tracks?

About fifty years, a young lady asked my friend if he played a musical instrument.

"Yes," he replied.

"What?" she asked.

"The record player."

Of course it's cheating but it's fine for a bit of fun. As mentioned use the midi editor to create drum tracks or to edit drum tracks made by real time recording. Everyone who makes drum tracks in real time using a midi controller would make a short one, two or four bar section and then copy and paste it.

Hmm. I suppose that would be the best way to get a somewhat intricate beat down. I'll try that method soon. Now I don't regard that kind of action as cheating as it is all your own work. But just taking a loop from a pool just doesn't sit right with me.

I feel the very same way. I use loops for fun etc but it isn't my original music. We must just find the time and practice in the midi to perfect our craft.
