Does 3d Distortion work?

scargill wrote on 6/29/2013, 3:52 AM

I wanted to add a picture-in-picture video - and have that look distorted as if it was sitting on a wall in the maing video - I went to 3d distortion - moving the corners of the video using the mouse (PC - Windows 7 64 bit) simply  results in the small video spiraling out of view - this cannot surely be the expected behaviour? I have the very latest version of the Magix Pro 2013 - updated yesterday. It did not work before or after the update.

Short answer to your question: yes it does, but I've only ever used it with still images (e.g. to make an image appear to "sit" within a screen that is not "square".)  I've never tried this with videos footage but I see no reason why it should not work.

The fact that yours is "spiralling out of view" seems to suggest that the Keyframe setting for the effect is not having a "stop" position inserted.

So, thinking further about this, I wonder whether you are wanting this "extra" video to move to the "wall" and then stay there?  If so, you need to set a keyframe at the point where you want it to first appear, a keyframe at the point where you want it to start "moving" (which may, of course, be at the time it first appears on screen), a keyframe at the point at which you want it to stop (in its "distorted" form).  Playing the full video should then make your inserted footage appear, move to its distorted new "position and it should stay in that position for as long as you wish to have it visible.

HTH  (It's easier to set those Keyframes than it is to describe how to do it!)

Hi

I think this is a bug. I have the same behaviour and the work around is to make sure you move the play marker to a different position before starting preview.

It should not occur with just a static (no keyframes set) distortion of the PinP but it does.

I think you're both probably right - I never though of using the keyframes - I simply have a video of me sitting talking with a still background and it occurred to me that the picture-in-picture video would like great adjusted so it sits there looking like it's on the wall behind me - which means adjusting it's perspective. I don't need it to change dynamically.

To save me a learning curve-  I know where the buttons are to set keyframes... what do I do so that I can mess with the frame shape..... I don't want to change from one part of the video to another - I just want the same static distortion throughout the video...

Any advice welcome and thanks ....

You do not need to touch the keyframes. Just do what you did but follow my work around to stop the image disappearing when you try to preview, and again after you make any more adjustments to shape or position of the static effect. All subsequent playback and export wiil proceed as normal.

Hi

I have tried to reproduce the 'spiralling effect' adjusting the video as scargill has posted and cannot get the spiralling effect at all - the image stays put in the distorted format as intended irrespective of where the timeline cursor is at the time of adding the distortion effect.

Try resetting all the video effects on the clip to be distorted and then do the 3D distortion first.

John

Thanks to all - moving the cursor seems to have solved the problem.... so it is a bug, then.

Hi John

Sometimes it does not occur but it is enough to be a nuisance. It makes no difference if there are other effects present or not.

Did you try it with an AVCHD clip? I just tried with some SD MPEG and it seemed better.
