Disappearing project

Hello. I'm using Magix Music Maker MX. I had a project/track that I had finished. I went to rename it and right after I renamed it it disappeared. It's as if it got deleted. I know for sure that I didn't hit delete because there wasn't a popup dialouge asking me if I was sure I wanted to proceed.

I found the track name in windows explorer but it shows it as file type: file. It's only 239kb so I know it's not the project. I've tried opening it with multiple programs and tried to drag into timeline on MMM. I opened it on notepad and it contained the names of all the midi's and samples I used, but they are all jumbled up and randomly spread out. I'm running on Windows Vista (my old laptop).

Any help would be awesome, thanks! (p.s. Yes, I checked the recycle bin, not there)

Hi,

If you found the file for the project for which you changed the name, then check to make sure that the extension is .MMM. When you change a filename, always make sure that you keep the correct extension. If there is no extension, then correct it.

The project files are small. They do not contain music, wav files, mp3's, ogg's etc., so the file size is always small. Do not remove the source files from your computer as MMM uses these - again, it does not import them, it only knows where to find them and then uses the originals. MMM is just a set of instructions - the output, like a wav or mp3 file is a final result that contains the music as modified by the program. MMM does a compilation of all of the instructions and uses the originals to create the final output.

MMM MX probably has an automatic backup every 10 minutes. This is in the Program settings (shortcut P). The filename is similar to this:

MySong_BAK0.MM_

The next one will be MySong_BAK1.MM_ then 2, then 3, etc.

If you find the most recent one, change the extension to .MMM instead of .MM_ and open it.
