direct recording from vinyl ( No Preamp used) in ACL 2005 Deluxe

Vesalius wrote on 5/3/2013, 9:09 PM

Hi Everyone,

On the front cover of the CD case for ACL 2005 Deluxe it clearly states:

"NEW !  RECORD DIRECTLY FROM VINYL WITHOUT PREAMP HARDWARE."

...no further mention of this unusual feature occurrs in any of the Help Sections.

This seems to me a good idea...but does it really work?

Does anyone have any experience of this method of Preampless recording from Vinyl that they can share with me?

All comments/suggestions/criticisms most welcome...

Cheers,

V.

Hi,

In order to record your vinyl disc without using a phono pre-amp you are going to need to connect your ACL cables to a line level output on your audio amplifier.  This is assuming you have a cable that looks something like this (the example below is for video and audio yours should only have the red and white RCA connectors)

and not a box with a built in pre-amp.

Hi

AFAICS this version of ACL use the Line out of your amplifier to the Line in (blue audio socket) on your computer or if you have no Line Out on your amp the headphone socket - however this option reduces the quality of the sound.

Personally I would purchase a USB audio converter/preamp  which you can plug the turntable directly into for maximum quality . Note this must be suitable for use with moving coil or moving magnet cartridges or whatever type is fitted to your turntable.

You may also want to consider updating ACL to the latest version which has more functions and cleaning tools then the 2005 version.
