Don't know because, AFAIK, MAGIX Video Pro X4 has not been released yet!

Or is this another "version" of a post from several months ago where the poster was referring to a similarly-named product from a competitor?

Video Pro X4 is far more powerful, has more export options, can handle any type of file, has more software bells and whistles and has TWO monitors onbard (source and working).  It also has a brand new look and feel that makes navigation far superior to all of its other models.  You can shrink or expand single tracks (rather than the WHOLE rack)  so if you are working on just a video track you can shrink the sound track and fill the Line with your video track.  So many of the new options on MX4 are simply astounding.    I'm in the middle of editing a feature length documentary with X3 and I'm upgrading to X4 asap.

X4 is geared towards the Pro-sumer and Professional as it can handle much larger projects and is far more user friendly than its other models.  Its raw power alone puts it into another class: its rendering is far faster, you can work directly on the 'work monitor' (as opposed to the track) for some applications  so its  much easier and faster than the MX verion.

If you are just working on smaller projects, the MX series is tops but if you plan on going into larger projects, the X4 is your beast of choice.  I switched over to X3 from Avid and Vegas Pro 10 to X3 and never looked back.

Hope that helps!  Peae.  -Gene

Gene, thanks so much for your insight on this question.  Since there is such a huge price increase for Video Pro X4 over MEP 17+, I was wondering this very question as, on the face of it, I can't really see much difference between MEP 17+ and VP X4.  The dual monitor is amazing, as is the project folder, but I've noticed VP X4 gives you far less items (many of the effects for example) including no Synths (2 are included in MEP).

So, the price is due to the internal processing allowing the large, professional projects to function.  That makes total sense to me.  Are there other benefits for the non-professional that aren't readily apparent?   It's a pretty big price difference.
