When I want to remove a portion from my videos, I just scrub to the spot that I want to remove and on the control bar where the play and stop buttons are, right next to it is the split scene, I slice one end... move to end of the piece that I don't want and slice again and hit the delete key.   This is how I do it.  Hope this is helpful.
