Delete empty space?

Hi, I am wondering if magix has the ability to "delete" empty space, im not sure what its actually called, but if you've used Adobe Premiere before you can click an empty spot between tracks and "Delete" it and the tracks will move together, making it easier to piece together edited video. I was wondering if Magix has this feature or somethign like it, i find it annoying to have to piece together my entire video by hand. Small projects are fine but even so the option wpould still be nice. Does anyone have MMEP 16 yet? does it have the feature at all? I have 2015 still.

Hi

Please use MEP 2016 when referring to the latest version to avoid confusion with the earlier version MEP 16.

. . . . Does anyone have MMEP 16 yet? does it have the feature at all? I have 2015 still. . . . .

I suspect you are doing your editing with the mouse mode set to Single Object.

There is no automatic function to delete blank space however there are several ways of doing this:-

For existing gaps - set a range starting from the start of the blank space to the end of the blank space then press Alt + Del to remove it.

If you have a lot of blank spaces the above can be tedious - in which case you need to modify your editting technique slightly:-

To avoid creating blank spaces when editing change the mouse mode to Single track (press 8 key ) or All tracks (press 7 key) - see note below

    - use the Z (remove start) and U (remove end) keys to trim the start or end of a clip

OR

    - If removing a centre section - move the timeline cursor to the start of the section you want to remove and press T (cut) key then move the timeline cursor to the end of the section to be removed and press the Z key.

Note -

In Single track mode when you delete part of an object as above all objects to the right of the editted object on that track will be moved to the left  to close up the gap.

All tracks mode will move all objects on all tracks to the left - this can cause issues with overlapping objects if you are not careful.

Read carefully what John EB indicated. The trick is to learn how to use MEP properly so that you don't get into a situation where you have a lot of blank spaces.

Magix Video Pro X7 has a feature to jump to a blank space, but nothing to delete it; you have to move things ----- carefully ---- to avoid additional problems. Imagine a blank space in the video but you have a separate audio track that goes over the blank space. Simply deleting the space could put everything out of sync, not a good idea. So, use the correct tools from the start.
