Delay Issue

Brooke-Harvey wrote on 5/17/2021, 6:42 PM

It’s me again. I use an audio interface to plug into my PC’s USB and have my guitar hooked into the interface. For audio recording settings, it will have the audio line-in as the interface, but I have to use WASAPI in order to hear anything. When I record this way, there is a very slight delay. I found on another post that to fix this, switch to ASIO driver. However, when I do this, I don’t get any audio and in the recording settings, it is automatically switched to the ASIO in the recording settings as well. If I use the magix latency in program and audio recording settings, same issue occurs. Appears I can only get sound by using WASAPI if I use the interface. Any ideas on how to fix the slight delay or what settings I should use? I’m running Magic Music Premium Edition on Windows 10.

@Brooke-Harvey Can you please make a screenshot of the driver settings window that opens if you click on the "Advanced..." button while your ASIO4All driver or Magix Low Latency driver is selected?

First photo is with the ASIO4ALL driver, the 2nd and 3rd photo is with magix latency. I didn’t notice this before, but with the latency driver selected the usb audio (my interface) shows up.

When I record this way, there is a very slight delay.

The way to get over these type of delays is to use direct monitoring from the interface if it is available. Latency as this delay is called can be hard to solve even with ASIO drivers where there might still be some latency calculated in milliseconds. What interface are you using?

It’s a cheaper interface, but the playback of what I would record is where I’m hearing the delay.

@Brooke-Harvey You can try to decrease the delay by decreasing the buffer size inside the Magix Low Latency or ASIO4ALL driver settings and the Audio buffer size inside the program settings. Try something lower than 512 and 8192. This will need a lot of computing on your CPU so try to minimize its load to prevent crackling and skipping. Close all other applications if necessary. You can also export all of your other tracks into one single WAV file. This way you can record your guitar with just one single playback track.

@Brooke-Harvey

At the right hand end of your interface I see a switch marked “Output”. What are its options?

@emmrecs The options are "Direct Mono", "Direct Stereo" and "USB"

I don’t get any audio when I use the magix latency or the Asio4all drivers though. I have to use WASAPI in program settings which then automatically has the interface selected in the audio recording section.

@SP.

Thanks for that. 😀

@Brooke-Harvey

Have you tried using any/all of those output options? My gut feeling is that one of the "Direct" options should allow you to hear what you are playing without any delay/latency.

Are you talking about the monitor outputs from the interface to speakers?

Edit: oops, I’m guessing you’re talking about the switch on the interface and changing it to direct stereo or direct mono, right?

No luck on that. Used both direct stereo and mono on the interface as well as tried magix latency and Asio4all drivers.

Got an email that a johnebaker commented on this with a suggestion but it’s not here? Guessing the comment was deleted.
