hi , i have a delay in my head set when i'm turning on the monitor option and press record. its hard to speak or sing when this delay is on. how can i fix it? i have windows 11 and sound forge pro 16.
This "delay" is your system's latency. Essentially, your audio (speaking or singing) goes into your OS which then converts it to digital but for you to be able to "hear" it in your headset it must then be reconverted to analogue. Each "conversion" adds to this latency.
It is unavoidable unless you are able to use an ASIO driver and, preferably, an external audio interface which includes a direct monitoring facility. If you are only using the built-in audio facility of your computer you could try using ASIO4All as your audio driver.
OK.. i went to options , than to preferences , than audio and changed from microsoft sound mapper to this driver and now i can't hear nothing. theres anything els that i can do?
Open the ASIO4All control panel (usually accessed via an "Advanced" button) and check which inputs and outputs are selected. Choose the ones which are appropriate for your setup.
Please show a screenshot of your ASIO4All Control Panel. When it first opens you will see something like this:
PLEASE NOTE: this is from my computer, your listed options on the left will be different. Click on the cog icon I have highlighted. This will then open the Advanced settings, as below:
AGAIN, this is my computer, yours will have different options. I have highlighted the small white icon on the left panel, you should have at least one showing similarly. Click on it and a dropdown will appear with ALL the options available using that particular choice. If none are highlighted, click, in turn, on each of them and see what options are offered.
Everything there looks OK but what is the C-MEDIA USB device? It seems to be some kind of audio interface. Have you tried selecting it and then testing whether you can use it?
One other thought: I see that the selected input is listed as an Audio Line input. What happens if you choose the mic option? How are you connecting your mic to your computer, and what kind of mic is it?
I'm guessing that C-MEDIA USB Device is actually your microphone. Is that correct? If so, it can clearly be seen by Windows.
In the ASIO4ALL Control Panel, Advanced View, if you highlight (click on) the "button" that is on the left of its name it should become highlighted (turn white). That means it is now activated as your input and, possibly output. Leave the Realtek HD Audio Output activated but deactivate (turn off) the Realtek HD Audio Line Input. This means that ASIO4All is using your C-MEDIA interface as input but your computer's headphone socket as output.
