I notice that when I playback my gopro footage on my computer it's very jittery due to the level of compression that the file is currently in. When I load the videos into my edit pro plus software will it automatically decompress or do I need to run it through a video converter process first?
Can we have your computer specs and version/name of the software please?

In addition to @CubeAce comment, what is the GoPro model and what format, framerate and resolution of the GoPro videos you are wanting to import. A MediaInfo analysis of one of the video clips would also be helpful - see here for the information required and how to get the version number of MEP.
Did you install any software that came with the GoPro?

To John EB and Cube Ace...my computer specs are Dell 9th gen intel core i7-9700 processor...3.0 GHz...16GB...26666MHz RAM...4GB NVIDIA GEForce GTX 1050Ti graphics...running windows 10. using a hero black 5 and shooting 2.7K resolution 30fps . Initially used gopro dark room but that software was left unsupported and failed to work properly. currently using gopro quick...videos are awful to watch in the Quick app and much better when i watch in the MEP plus 2017 version but just not as crystal clear and smooth as other videos that a see on youtube etc...should i be running my footage through some kind of software to optimize clarity etc?...or is that not necessary?

A comparison with Youtube videos is not a like for like comparison.
We await the MediaInfo data from one of the clips you are having an issue with, after some digging about issues with the Go Pro Black 5 and poor quality of video - can you upload a short clip (assuming they are not confidential etc) that is showing this issue to somewhere like Dropbox or a similar file sharing site for us to have a look at.
Note do not upload to Youtube, Vimeo, forum etc as they will convert the file - we must have the original.

Go Pro typically outputs in MPEG4 IIRC. It could also be his card adapter or the interface he's using. Older USB 2.x drives sometimes will CPU bind older systems and fall flat on their face.
I can't find that much specific information or have experience on that codec to comment. It doesn't seem that taxing at 2.7K unless the monitors don't support that resolution.
I am concerned about drive transfer speeds though. That would seem an obvious bottleneck as the rest of the enquirer's system spec is way above mine and my videos are recorded at higher bit rates than Go-Pros produce even though I'm working at 1080p.

Unfortunately, mp4 is a "container" format. The actual codecs needed for any specific mp4 file can vary considerably. Hence the request for the MediaInfo data.

Just did a quick little test with mine, using the information given by OP. So, if he/she ever decides to respond back with their clip information, you can use this as a comparison. I am not having problems, use Magix Movie Studio Platinum 16 Suite on the computer I am currently on (though do have Music Maker installed), but follow the forum posts. Hope this helps with diagnosing OP's problem!
You say that you are trying to watch your videos using MEP? Did you export from MEP to MP4 and watch that? MEP is not a viewing program, it's an editing program. Videos on YT are the finished product, not a bunch of video clips imported into an editing program.
In MEP, if you are having problems playing back 2.7k material, use proxies. When done, export. Play back the result in a video player program that can handle 2.7K, not MEP.
You can also click on the lightning bolt for smoother playback. Right-click on it and select at least Deactivate effect.
That said, we usually have jittery problems when playing back material in MEP and VPX and use the above means to reduce this. There is no problem with the exported file.
I did a short test of 23s with my GoPro Hero 5, 2.7K, and I get smooth playback in MEP2019 on my old desktop - max resolution is 1920x1080, and a couple of jitters on my Surface Pro 4 which has a higher resolution screen. Both projects were adjusted to the imported video.

Imported into MEP - no proxy files generated played smoothly as was.
I then cut the video into 3 , applied xfade and swing transition, and Mercalli 2 stabilisation to all sections - still played back smoothly.

I too can play back John CB's clip in windows with no jittering using Windows own movie player which is more than I can do with the higher bit rate files made from my Osmo Pocket.
No problem with MEP not using proxy files either and I'm running Win7 with an i5 processor.

Me neither, but of course all footage recorded on consumer cameras is highly compressed via H.264 or H.265 compression. What is interesting from the media info data is that the Gopro footage has a GOP of M=1 and N=15 which means that it does not use B frames which are the most compressed frames, meaning that the footage is less compressed than the average camcorder AVC H.264 footage and as such should be less processor intensive to decode during playback.

Same result for me, using MEP: no problem of playback being jittery, jerky etc. No proxies used. I didn't try John EB's "extended" test, with cuts, fades etc.
However, slightly OT, when I placed the same clip into VPX (11), the audio was highly distorted!!! Same project settings, same playback hardware! No way I could discover to remove that distortion.
I know at least some of the contributors to this thread also run VPX. Can you open the clip in it and see whether you also hear this distortion?

You are quite correct and thanks for pointing this out. The audio is terribly distorted in VPX11 on both of my computers. I had noticed this on a couple of GoPro clips recently (1080p) and thought that it was my camera acting up. I just tested the clip in Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab and the audio was fine, as it was in MEP.
I think that this is another bug to add to the list.
Has anyone else found the same problem?
I haven't run into this yet in my current project with any GoPro clips taken from last week, but I am not far along.

I think this is, potentially, sufficiently serious to warrant raising a support ticket, so shall do so immediately. There is, it seems, a serious fault with some part of the audio engine in VPX11.

The audio distortion is present here in VPX 11 as well, however it is specific to the GoPro mp4, other mp4's from 2 different cameras are OK.
My Sony sportscam audio is identical in all parameters as the GoPro except for the encoding format which is AAC vs the GoPro AAC.
If I convert the GoPro video so the audio is AC3 it plays back fine in VPX and then taking that AC3 clip convert back to AAC the audio also plays fine in VPX
Begs the question - have GoPro done something to the AAC codec?

Thanks for this further confirmation. Interesting find that it seems to only affect the GoPro .mp4; I didn't have any other mp4s to hand to check them!
I have raised a ticket with Magix Support, including a link to this thread and have uploaded the supplied clip. It will be interesting to see what Technical Support have to say! Especially if it is caused by GoPro!! But, if so, why affecting only VPX and not MEP??

Hi guys. Just so you know, those of us that use Magix Vegas Pro/Movie Studio (typically it was versions 14/15), we had the same problem with audio. Part of the issue from what I have seen over on those (Vegas Pro/Movie Studio) forums was that GoPro was still using QuickTime within the file. So, if you were running the older GoPro Studio (check the versions Derek Moran {a.k.a. Dr. Zen} has on his site MSZ for his tutorial on using Cineform), when converting the original *.mp4 files to either *.mov or *.avi, your computer needed the QuickTime Plug-in for the application/program to work correctly, that is, GoPro Studio.
To add to the problem, I just shot a couple more clips at 2.7K, imported into VPX and there is no problem with the sound. The one that I posted still has the problem. Here is the link to one of the new files.
I have QuickTime 7 installed on my desktop.
Checking back with a previous clip shot at 1080p that had a problem, in this case you can visually see the problem which is why I thought that it was possibly the camera. This is not the case with the file that I posted yesterday, so there is a different problem somewhere.
