Custom Buttons on BluRay Menus Throw Errors on Menu Encode

Rajada wrote on 12/2/2024, 6:17 PM

SO I've used Vegas for some time, and DVD architect used to be my go-to for making home video DVDs. Now for a new project I needed a larger format, so I switched to BluRay and started using Magix Movie Studio Platinum (2025). The built-in DVD/BR menu editing is extremely similar to DVDA, and I set up my menus like I usually do without a template. Lo and behold the menu encoding errors out before I even get to the burning stage.

The first error thrown in the log is:

2024/11/18 12:18:54 [ERROR]   [QtMessageHandler]: Failed to load Style for NavigationButton_QMLTYPE_156(0x3ab25450)
2024/11/18 12:18:54 [ERROR]   [QtMessageHandler]: Failed to load Style for NavigationButton_QMLTYPE_156(0x3ab23dd0)
2024/11/18 12:18:54 [ERROR]   [QtMessageHandler]: Failed to load Style for NavigationButton_QMLTYPE_156(0x3a9a64c0)
2024/11/18 12:18:54 [ERROR]   [QtMessageHandler]: Failed to load Style for NavigationButton_QMLTYPE_156(0x3a9a4540)

Now, if I go back and use a template, suddenly menu encoding works fine! All I do was right click and add two simple buttons with text only and suddenly it's throwing errors again. So why even let me add buttons in this manner if it doesn't work? Really disappointed considering DVDA could do this no problem.

More errors than that are thrown however. For my chapter select menu I added a custom button with a custom PNG graphic for a "back to menu" button and that one throws this error about 60 times in a row:

[Import]: import module for image file: <redacted filename>.png returned error code while open image: -2147467259

and a few:
[ResortAllPLE]: GetOriginalSample: OriginalSample beyond FileEnd

Lastly, the fatal is thrown:
[FATAL]   [DiscMaker]: CB_AddMenuVisual: CInfoException: 0x80004005 - too many tracks

Too many tracks in what? I've been googling these errors to no avail for a day straight now. Nothing. What gives? How can making a dvd menu be so busted when ten years ago this was flawless on DVDA? Feel like I paid money for a far worse program here.

Hi

. . . . DVD architect used to be my go-to for making home video DVDs. Now for a new project I needed a larger format, so I switched to BluRay . . . .

My advice would be to continue using DVDA.

DVDA 6 and 7, can create Bluray discs and work on Windows 10 and 11, earlier versions may also be able to create BD discs - the forum for DVDA is here.

If you cannot use DVDA then, I would not advise creating a menu from scratch, it is easier and more reliable to customise an existing template, which you can save for future re-use.

Note: Blu-Ray, unlike DVDs, does not support scripting.

Sorry to say that suggesting I get out of print software and then not really addressing my post is not very helpful. I am in the midst of trying to hack my custom buttons into a copy of a default template since the very act of adding a button makes this program shit a brick. Unfortunately several of the iconographic buttons can't even be edited! They lack the "properties" context menu option. I just want a button that says "Chapters", not a weird icon. What a fail. But even with custom buttons removed it still complains about tracks in a project with literally one track. Perhaps someone with some understanding of these error codes could actually help me out.

@johnebaker is a very experienced user of this software and what he wrote is most definitely not in any way not very helpful. You may not be happy with or agree with what he writes but that does not alter its validity nor justify your refusal to accept it and, in effect, demand help from someone with some understanding of these error codes.

Seems like creating a new button doesn't set the style attribute like you were able to modify in DVDA (button styles had a few options like text only, text and image, and image only IIRC). You also could modify all those template buttons too, unlike how MAGIX locks down half of them. If I wasn't so over this program I'd say they should fix all that but there's probably so many other issues that the best course of action would be to take this version out behind the shed.

Jeff, I respectfully disagree. While moving back to DVDA may help in this particular case it is not what I asked. Additionally, it is not just the simple act of just picking it up off the shelf of a local store. If I could buy it I would have already. Also, modifying templates is also far outside the scope of trying to get a single simple text button. If that's the solution then something has gone horribly wrong between the days of DVDA and this thing.

What I have is this program, and DVDA4. I can't burn blurays with DVDA4 so I asked for help with this program. However, little to no MAGIX-relevant information was given. No error codes were explained or even mentioned, and scripting is far from what I'm trying to do. And hey, if no one knows that's fine. I'm not going to fault anyone for that. But I am allowed to be critical when someone brushes me off. This program seems broken beyond all help if it can't even handle a button, and it's a real shame that these tools have gone downhill so badly. I'll definitely agree with johnebaker on this one and never ever recommend this program over DVDA if you can get your hands on it.

And you don't have to put veiled threats in your posts. I'm not sure I get the reason why either. Reading through dozens of threads on here none of you seem to like this program so I don't see how my being critical of it could possibly hurt your feelings. I probably will not be back anyway and will seek an alternative program. And don't put words in my mouth like "demand" and "refuse" please. That only happened in your head.

Hi

The error codes you are getting are similar style to those Windows generates, Magix internal error codes are a more specific in where the error is.

Searching for the particular error code does bring up many similar error messages which point to a Windows component issue, in your case either with .NET or the Visual C++ redistributable.

Assuming you are running Windows 10 or 11, see note below.

  • Run a System file check (SFC) and DISM health check to find and fix any Windows issues.

  • Check that the .NET Framework 3.5 Windows feature is also turned on.

  • Check that all installed Visual C++ reditributables are all up-to-date, latest versions are available here

Tracks error message if you continue to get this error, raise a Support ticket link is at the top of the page and scroll down to the bottom to see the Contact support option.

Menu editing

The indicated buttons below are not editable. You have to remove them and then add new buttons setting the parameters as you do in DVDA.

Below is an example of the Default menu template edited, replacing the 'non-editable' buttons with text buttons.

Note: If you are running Windows 8 or earlier, or running MMS 2025 on a MAC using Parallels/Windows, these systems are not supported.

Hi,

Using MMS2025 version 24.0.1.221

I went through most of what you indicated in your first post as best I could determine and had no problems whatsoever adding buttons, including buttons with png image, linking to a particular chapter in one of the two movies that I created. In the image below, I replaced the png image with a jpeg photo. No problems at all, no crashing, no errors.

Unfortunately several of the iconographic buttons can't even be edited! They lack the "properties" context menu option. I just want a button that says "Chapters", not a weird icon.

Could you please show screen shots of what you are trying to do?

Instead of using an icon button, I added buttons. On one, I added an image.

BTW, Magix Movie Studio and its built-in Burn interface has nothing to do with DVDA from Vegas and never did. DVDA came from Vegas when it belonged to Sony, I believe. Not the same company, not the same programmers.
