Cursor Movement

CurtisMovi wrote on 9/28/2013, 7:17 PM

I'm using Magix Movie Maker Pro Plus 2013 and the cursor on the Timeline view used to move as the movie clips played, but now it doesn't move while playing.  This is in the Timeline Mode, the 3rd mode, not storyboard or scene, the Timeline mode used to do clip editing.

The orange "cursor" is stationary during playback.  I went into the top left corner window to File, down to Settings, and checked in the Movie and also Program options.  But was only able to make it so the cursor stops at the point the movie stops on the Timeline.

MY QUESTION IS how to make the cursor move along the timeline above the clips while I play?  The window view has a cursor that moves up under the little monitor, not that, the Timeline cursor is not scrolling?

Hi

Are you saying you do not get the second 'headless' cursor during playback as shown in this image?

Does it appear when you create a new project?

Try resetting the program to its default settings - File, Settings, Reset program to defaults.

Note you will lose any custom settings you have made.

Yeah, the second bar doesn't scroll.  I solved it and here is the way I did it.  Restarted my computer.  After that it worked.

Prior to restart, I also noticed that the frame rate was pretty choppy as well as the scroll bar not moving.  My pc is pretty robust, but I rarely "shutdown" and just let it sleep.  So the actual shutdown made it so no more choppy frame rate and the bar scrolls.

I got a answer elsewhere, which I already knew.  That is under the top File option in the top bar, at the bottom of that is "Settings" and in that is "Program" settings, with the program popup under "Display" in the top right you can set the scroll bar option to fast, slow or mute.  Seems with my pc low memory or whatever it was making the Magic Movie Maker Pro 2013 work with the scroll bar on mute even though it was to fast.  I was hoping there was some other cause or a keyboard short cut I accidentally turned on or off to make it stop scrolling.  Turns out just restart pc.  The choppy frame rate wasn't happening at first, just the scroll bar, so it got worse over time.

Now if I can only figure why it "stops responding" when doing screen captures.  Happens if I try to stack several screen captures, the dialog box to start and stop screen caps, when you say stop and it transitions to the program from whatever I was capturing on the web, but the program stops responding and then I need to go to "task manager" and end it, which restarts the program.

Hi

. . . . but I rarely "shutdown" and just let it sleep . . .

That would do it - over a period of time memory does not always get released properly so eventually you start to run out of it.  Happens more with software that has 'memory leaks'.

. . . . why it "stops responding" when doing screen captures. . . . try to stack several screen captures, . . . .  stop and it transitions to the program . . . . ,  program stops responding . . . .

I presume you mean you make a screen capture, then follow this with another and so on until you have what you need - again this could be a memory issue - to check try saving the project  and restarting MEP in between screen captures.

Hi

Yes, MEP does weird things as you start to get near the memory limit on large projects and with lots of hi res images. Later versions periodically release memory by paging out to the hard disc pagefile so make sure you have an adequate pagefile set. Often just closing the program and reopening helps and there is also a command "Edit>Empty undo and memory cache" that will free up some RAM temporarily.

Most people find that about a 45min project is as big as you should go with a full HD or greater resolution material.

With Hi Res still images it is sometimes better to batch reduce their resolution in a photo editor to a resolution closer to the res of the target format of the project, prior to import. There are a couple of settings in "Program Settings" that reduce memory usage with Hi res stills (bitmaps).
