Crashing with OBS Studio

ReKeJe wrote on 2/10/2021, 3:49 PM

Is anyone out there having an issue with Windows 10 64-bit, with Magix Music Maker Premium 2017-2020 crashing when using it in conjunction with OBS Studio for recording tutorial videos. It always crashes and it's getting frustrating. I am real close to shouting this out on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, as being a piece of crap software. Dell needs to seriously get this software designed right. It's a piece of crap....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ReKeJe

By tutorial videos, I presume that you are opening or trying to open video files recorded by OBS in MMM. Correct?

If so, then you have probably recorded in variable frame rate and video programs - most of them, MMM included, do not like this at all.

Can you post the details of a file that does not work using Media Info?

@ReKeJe

Hi

. . . . I am real close to shouting this out on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, as being a piece of crap software . . . .

If you check the Media section of the forum you will find there are many tutorials on using Music Maker - it is quite a common issue to easy to assume/blame the software is at fault due to un-familiarisation/understanding of how the software interfaces with hardware and other programs.

Assuming you are making tutorials about how to use or create music in Music Maker, using OBS for recording there you have several issues:

  1. Music Maker by default takes control of the audio card to the exclusion of all other programs - OBS may be trying wrest control of the sound and is causing MMM to crash.

  2. You will get no audio in the recordings if you use the default Magix Low Latency audio driver options - either

    a. use the Wave driver option instead of Magix Low Latency in the Settings, Audio/Midi tab - this may render some objects not being heard on playback

    or

    b. install ASIO4All and use this for the sound driver settings in the Settings, Audio/Midi tab.

  3. Depending on the video editor you are going to use - it may not handle the OBS recordings correctly - there is a very long topic in this issue here with solutions.

I would also suggest you checkout existing MMM tutorials in the Media section of the forum to avoid duplication of effort.

Actually, I'm doing a Magix Music Maker tutorial while recording in OBS Studio. This happens with none of my other DAWS,i.e. Ableton, Fl Studio, MPC Meats, MPC Essensials, etc..
