I have one remaining problem in my test period of Audio Cleaning Lab 3 (ACL-3) that perhaps folks could help me with.
I have a turntable connected to a MusicHall A2D pre-amp/USB into a computer via USB, Windows 10, Audio Cleaning Lab 3.
I'm mostly working on recording/ripping jazz albums. In this case, Ron Carter's Yellow & Green it's a simple quartet, no supper loud or highly active, trumpet/trombone tracks. Pretty much every track activates 'Too Loud".
It's not clear how to best adjust the levels to get the best recording. There seem to be multiple ways to tackle this, but none of them automated?
1. I can change the gain on the MusicHall A2D, which would result in a lower volume signal sent to the PC
2.I can change the incoming level on the Windows driver. (see image 1.) - Two ways to set, same result; also ran monitor which reported 61%
3. Change volume via the slider in ACL-3 (see image 2.) - changes same as 2. but easier to access
4. Set automatic volume in the Settings/Audio Input (see image 3.)
The help in image 2. says "ideally set it to 3/4." 3/4 of what, where?
I'd really like someone who understands how this should work to help. I've recorded the album a couple of times, but everytime the at least one track seems to top-out and be subject to limiting.
