There's no support for CAF files in the latest version of Sound Forge??? Is it on the agenda to be supported, or are there legal or other issues with supporting it?
CAF is an Apple format, similar to a (BWF) Broadcast Wave File, which can be a multi-channel (poly) and can contain metadata like a TC stamp and other non-audio info). I have never encountered one. VLC should be able open it where can be transcoded to an SF friendly format. I do not know if the metadata can be transferred, nor have I tried opening one in SFP by changing the extension to <.raw>, which sometimes opens other's files.
I've been using Rode's iXY stereo microphone for iPhone, and it's app produces a CAF file for the generated 48K/24bit stereo file. I have found the FFmpeg command line utility to convert from CAF to WAV, but that is an extra step that SF should be able to avoid.

SF supports standard audio formats, as @rraud has commented the CAF file is a bespoke Apple format ie none standard. Apple prefer to keep everything 'Apple device and software based' whether it is video, image or audio.
According to Rode, the iXY app records in a multitude of audio formats, you should be able to select a standard format that is compatible with SF.
