Copied & Pasted Samples Don't Play

stunner wrote on 9/5/2017, 11:24 PM

So this is making it really difficult to test out different sounds and I hope there is a fix:

I'm using MMM Live. When I'm creating my arrangement, I will customize a sample with the amount of FX I need, and then I'll go to copy/paste it further down the track. Or, I'll cut out a specific part of a sample and will paste it further down the track. MMM will simply act like it's not even there, and will just play across it silently. The volume will not move, indicating that the program does not see the object. I'll try moving it to another track - sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. I'll mute/unmute the piece and sometimes that will fix it as well. Sometimes it won't, but after several tries it may. Sometimes nothing works except time and randomly while playing the song it will suddenly kick on and realize there is a sound there and play it. Switching sound drivers doesn't resolve it either.

It's slowing me down a ton and I'd really like to get this fixed. Video attached for reference.

stunner

No replies yet, so figured I'd attach another video. Is this a known issue? It seems to occur when I start cutting objects and then trying to copy/paste the cut object around the track.

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

I don't have MM Live but do have MM Premium. I just tried this by inserting a loop into an MM track, choosing to edit audio in external editor (which opened Music Editor 3), cut the loop, chose to save and export a part of it, added that part to the track in MM and it played without problem.

So, how are you making those cuts you mention? I wonder whether MM Live does not like cuts made to loops, or whether it "requires" something like Magix Music Editor to make those cuts? I don't have time at the moment but at some point over the next day or so, hopefully, I will try making the cut in different audio software and see whether the resulting file can be imported to MM.

Hi

. . . . MM Live . . .

Do you mean Music Maker 2016 Live, and what is the version number as found under Help, About . . . ?

If it is MMM 2016 Live, then your version number should be 22.0.5.74, which is the last patch for this version - if you are not at this patch level then you need to update the program and then try to copy and paste again - I have no issues with cutting a section of a sound clip and pasting it elsewhere on the timeline with or without effects applied.

@emmrecs

Cutting a clip is the same as for MEP - using the T key - no need for using an external editor.

Hi,

I also have Premium and tried cutting up an imported file, actually a music video and copying and pasting pieces on the same track, adding some loops to 2 other tracks. I could not replicate the problem.

You may want to zip and post the project on Dropbox, including the MMM file and the underlying file that was cut up along with the other files if they are not proprietary so we can try it out.

Thanks for the reply. I am using the "cut" function in MM Live (the scissors button at the top).

I'm not making edits in external software, I do everything within Music Maker.

Hi John,

The version I am on is 24.1.6.127 (UDP3).
When I go to Update Online it says that there are no newer versions to download.

Maybe I should try reinstalling?

browj2 wrote on 9/8/2017, 11:14 AM

Hi,

I have the same version. No, I don't think that re-installing will help.

Did you try with a new project and a different audio file to see if the same thing happens?

Yes, this has been happening for several projects now.

stunner wrote on 9/8/2017, 11:32 AM

Hi guys, I wanted to provide a video with narration just to show a bit more context. I discovered while recording this that it isn't necessarily cutting and copying objects, but rather anything that I copy/paste, even samples in their entirety. More detail in the video.

Thanks!

browj2 wrote on 9/8/2017, 11:33 AM

You mentioned that you put effects on first, then cut. Did you try without any effects?

John EB mentions in another post that he had Echo on a clip, then cut, copied and pasted and had problems, although not the same as yours.

Try the above to see what happens.

If still happening, zip up a project and let us try it.

Yeah that was a typo, it was actually a send, not a direct effect. Though now that you mention it, this issue has become much more prevalent since I began messing around with ghost tracks, sidechaining, etc. I definitely need the ability to play with effects while building a song, though.

stunner wrote on 9/8/2017, 7:51 PM

I made a song with no real issue as long as I save FX until after I have everything in place before I start messing with them. That seems to be the way I'll have to do things.
