Contacting Magix via their site

philip-flood wrote on 8/31/2017, 10:05 PM

I tried sending inquiry re purchasing product through Magix contact site and was required to log in, which I did only for the circle to keep revolving. Tried again from different browse and same thing. If Magix are reading this , here is the message I was trying to send:

"I was interested in upgrading from Designer Pro v11 to new v14 version following your email of Aug 24.  I put it into the shopping cart but could not find any moneyback guarantee in the offer so I just downloaded the trial, but on trying to open it was informed that it had already expired. Wow that was quick!

If I purchase this  new version, do you have any kind of money back guarantee, say within the first week or two of using it, as if not I  would rather not take the chance, as right now it kind of looks like there is nothing useful new in v14 and you don't want people to find that out before they buy.
I had previously upgraded 3 times in the past but that was after trying it out and even then  there was some kind of moneyback guarantee if not satisfied."

I have a feeling that with that kind of service I have already answered my question!

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

Is this the page you used to try and contact support? If so, are you a "registered" user, i.e. you have previously registered at least one Magix product?

I've just tested that page again this morning, without problem, so perhaps when you tried the server was having an off-day?!! Perhaps, try it again, and having logged in, use the link to Customer Services.

Hi,

By Designer Pro, I presume that you mean Xara Designer Pro X.

Where do you see version 14? As far as I know from the Magix.com and Xara.com websites and since I also have the latest product, there is only Xara Designer Pro X365, and under About, it is version 12...

Depending on where you purchased the previous version, you will be registered under either Magix.com or Xara.com. You should determine which one.

I suggest that you download and try out the trial version and then decide. You won't have access to everything, but most of it.

Also, you should review everything on the Xara.com website under Designer Pro X365, including the links to the Features, What's new, and Advanced to see what features have come out over the last year or so.

Finally, there is a dedicated forum site for Xara at Talkgraphic.com and there are other sites as well. You must have seen the links to all of these on the splash screen that starts up with Xara, unless you turned it off without looking at what was on it.

Over 100 new photo Filters: Xara Designer Pro X14 Anniversary Edition

To celebrate 10 years of design excellence with Xara Designer Pro X, we've released a special anniversary edition of the program! Version 14 is packed full of great features including new photo filters and innovative design content :
The above is a copy paste from a recent email sent by Magix which was headed "Anniversary Edition Designer Xara Designer Pro X14. The brand new version.

Had you read my original post you would see that I had already downloaded and installed the trial but on trying to open it message came up that trial had expired! I do have the correct login otherwise I would not have been able to continue and put the item into shopping cart.

Update. I just followed the same procedure in re sending my inquiry to Magix.com and this time it appeared to go through as I just received an acknowledgement email informing me that I should receive a response soon

browj2 wrote on 9/1/2017, 9:03 PM

Glad you got through to Magix. Very interesting. I can find no evidence of a version 14 in English or German and I have posted this on the Xara Talkgraphics forum to see if anyone else has received a similar email.

Is there a link to details in the email, and if so, can you please post it? Price?

This morning I got another email same as the one I responded to but with a Sept expiry date.Sorry there is no link, but I can forward this if you give email address, but I cannot find a way of attaching it as pdf to this message. Upgrade offer was $149, but without a trial even 48hrs or any kind of moneyback guarantee, there is no way, even if it was $50!

Hi

. . . . As to the t&c, again, yes I did but could not find any reference to mb guarantee. . . . .

Depending on your location, the terms and conditions vary.

In the EU/UK there is a 14 day cancellation period with money back guarantee, as required by EU law, for on online purchases.

AFAICS in the US the equivalent legal requirement depends on the state laws regarding online purchases, other countries have different requirements.

Hi,

I received a message from a Moderator of the Talkgraphics site (Xara) who said that he could find no evidence of a version 14 for Xara and said to not follow the links in the emails, but to forward the email offerings to Magix once you have the ticket number and email. You may want to inspect the addresses in the links to see if they really go to Magix. There have been cases of spoofed offerings.

Please let us know when you have a reply from Magix. We may get a reply from Xara itself on the Talkgraphics site tomorrow.

Very sound advice from browj2! I, too, was somewhat sceptical about that email you received, given especially that it speaks of version 14, when the current one is 11!

Hi Jeff,

The current version is 12 but they call it X365. The latest build is 12.8.1.50861.

Hi John.

Thanks for the correction; I'd forgotten about the 365 version. But I still do seriously wonder about this "version 14".

@browj2

Good point. The address in the email is " no-reply@news.magix.net" which links to

That link refers to item as Designer ProX i.e., no mention of Anniversary edition, or Designer Pro X14 as was in the email. Can't find a way of attaching a screenshot to this post, otherwise I would have. If I am missing something there let me know and I'll attach it to thread.

emmrecs wrote on 9/3/2017, 1:39 PM

Hi. Thanks for the latest update.

That link leads to the genuine page where Xara Designer Pro is shown. This link goes directly to the same page. I have a feeling this "latest version" is actually an update to Designer Pro X365.

So, as you suggest, the description of "version 14" seems somewhat erroneous, to say the least, but at least we know the product and offer are genuine.

Hi

If you follow the link you have posted and click the download trial option you will see that the version is 12 as shown below.

The version 14 is either a typo or a spoof email - I would err on the side of caution and treat the email as being suspicious.

Hi,

It seems that the email may be legit but v14 in error. Here is the message from Kate of Xara:

"I think the email is probably legitimate because Magix has recently released a new version of Designer Pro, and it is indeed 10 years since they started selling it. But the 14 label is perhaps a mistake because the version they've just released is the same as our 12.8. I think the next version will be 14 by the way, because Magix don't do 13s! I think the biggest surprise to me here is that they have given it a version number at all, because of course under the Update Service the version numbers are not normally headline news."

So, Philip, did you get a reply from Magix yet? You may not be the only one to have tried the trial and it expired right away, so it will be interesting to see what the solution is.

Did you go through the information on the Xara.com website about the changes since v11? There have been many. It depends on whether or not you need or want them. I think that there have been several cases of people on TG not being able to do certain things and then finding out it's because they are way behind. Still, go through the list.

For me, it was a no-brainer because they fixed the animation interface between Xara and the video editing programs. The animation now advances the video from the editor in Xara animation. Wonderful!
