Computer ID required for activation, but I can't get one

I'm having to reinstall all my (ancient) WIN XP Pro software after a hard drive crash. Noise Reduction 2 (for Sound Forge 5) won't give me a Computer ID, but registration requires one. (There's no phone registration option, which is supposed to provide the ID.) How do I (re)register my software??

Thanks for your response, rraud. The build on my copy is 2.0b, serial Removed by Moderator. The serial # is printed on the CD-ROM itself.

The Magix Download Center, however, tells me the serial number is incorrect and won't allow me access to any downloads.

Any suggestions?

@Don-in-the-Rockies

Hi

Please note that this is a public user to user forum, not Magix Support, hence my removal of the serial number from your post. Serial numbers, order numbers and other personal/confidential information should not be posted in the forum.

. . . . The Magix Download Center, however, tells me the serial number is incorrect and won't allow me access to any downloads. . . .

Windows XP is probably not able to communicate with the download servers, are you getting any error messages?

The Noise Reduction 2.0 (Direct X) plug-in is not specific to Sound Forge 5. I recall NR-2.0 was a separate application back in the Sonic Foundry and Sony days. NR-2.0 would have a unique serial code and still does. Assuming you have an activation serial, try installing and activating a 32 bit Sony build. I see NR-2.0d in the 2007 Sony archives. I do not think any of the (32 bit) Magix versions of NR-2.0 (aka, noise reduction pack) can be installed on Win XP.

btw, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @Don-in-the-Rockies.

Duh. Forgot this is a public forum... Thanks, John.

I'm emailing and connecting on a Win7 computer; the XP machine with the copy of NR 2.0 is offline. The error message I received on the Magix site concerned the serial number only. I never got access to software past that point.

@rraud Update: I'm waiting on data recovery from the old HD at a local PC shop. If there is an activation serial code on it (there probably is), I'll try what you suggested above and post again later this week...

Thanks
