Commercial use of MAGIX SP - what about loops purchased via MMM store?

Pernas wrote on 2/17/2022, 1:40 AM

From back in the days when the MMM Soundpools where distributed via DVD (at least 11-21) (I miss that period of time) the license for commercial use was simple and easy to understand (at least with SP collection 16 according to the license.txt):
"Only the music files contained in MAGIX Music Maker and MAGIX Soundpool DVD Collection may be used within newly-created musical works for commercial purposes too.".

However, I'm not sure about commercial use of the loops purchased after that via the MMM online store _but_ prior to the Loops Unlimited subscription ERA - anyone to elaborate or point me to relevant information?

@Pernas

Soundpool collections 1-16 can be used commercially if you have the CDs/DVDs. Soundpool Collections 17-21 need separate commercial licenses.

The online store (Catooh or now Producer Planet) always sold separate non-commercial or commercial licenses. Loops Unlimited is only a non-commercial license.

Just a follow up on this question, what happens when/if the already owned physical loops from dvd soundpool 1-16 gets updated? Are they still valid for commercial use then?

@Pernas How are they updated?

This is the tricky part, I'm not entirely sure of the origin of these updates. Sometimes they show up as updates to be downloaded in the download tab within MMM and sometimes in the store there's an indication of updates available for a particular soundpool.

I do have loops unlimited subscription as well but not sure if that's responsible for the incoming updates of older soundpools.

Also, I've noticed that when the "old" DVD 1-16 soundpools gets updated they sound "improved" like they were remastered or something similar.

Are these updates something that should affect the usability for these soundpools?

@Pernas

I think you may need to email infoservice@magix.net and ask in order to receive a definitive answer to your question.
