Hi. Im using Video Pro X4. I want to implement video scenes from a still camera (still video), but it has 29 pic/sec. And im using 25 in my videos. I dont know if that is the problem, but i have problems combinding video scenes from both videocamera and from still camera. Can anyone help?

rune0207,

It would help a lot if you were a bit more specific then simply '...i have problems...'

I'm not up to ProX4 but all earlier Magix editors have been able to use a wide variety of video sources. I simply create my project with the specs suitable for my final product (eg full HD BluRay DVD) and then drag in what ever I need.

If you import a 29fps clip into a 25fps project the running time will not change but you will not see all 29+ frames in any given second. By contrast if you import a 25fps clip into a 30fps project you will find that some of the 25 frames have been duplicated in the output.

What exactly is your problem?

Carl

Hi

Mixing different frame rate is a Carl says - not a problem for MEP or VPX, the only problem you will get is when you burn or export the movie.  Depending on the frame rate you define for the output then you will get the occasional jerkiness in one or the other sources depending on the video scene.

This is most obvious if you output 30fps material at 25 fps and the 30fps video is a panning shot from right to left.  Frames will be dropped from the 30fps video to get down to 25fps. Non panning 30fps video with little movement tend to be OK.

Similarly is the 'pull-down' effect converting 25 fps to 30fps - some frames are duplicated to get the required number of frames resulting in the same 'jerking' more explanation here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecine

I am guessing that the still camera is recording 30fps progressive video in which case you also have another 'problem' which may show up if you are exporting to interleaved video - interlacing artifacs/jaggies see here for an in depth explanation http://neuron2.net/LVG/interlacing.html.

All is not lost - even the professionals cannot totally get rid of these problems -you just have to be careful with the type of shots you are taking.

An example of the problem with pull down is here - the original video was H264 and has been reduced to mpg format to save space the only difference between the two is the framerate.  Watch the first skier coming in from the left (= panning right to left) to see the problem

Thanks John and Carl. The problems I have is that the clips with 29,97 fps is making the movie very slow and not smooth at all. And when i start the burning prosess the system halts. And then the movie is damaged in the way that its not possible to do anything. Always error messages, and then I have to force to stop the task. And finally I have to go back to an earlier version, without using the clips with this 29,97 fps. The clips are taken with Casio camera, and the type of file is .MOV. But the sound is ok.

So, I think the problems is that im trying to combine clips with different fps. When I drag this clip into the arranger, I got a warning that the fps is 29,97 and a question if i would like to adjust it to 25. I reply Yes, but the problems is still there.

I will studie your reply to me one more time, but think I still have the same problem. How to include or convert clips with 29,97 fps into a PAL movie with 25 fps?

Hi Rune

I think you may have a codec issue with the Casio movie clips.  A MOV file is a container file and can contain any video and audio codec so you need to determine which codecs are in the movie and if they are installed on your computer.

Download GSpot available here and analyse one of the MOV files you are trying to import.  Then click the blue buttons under MS/AV in the bottom left of the GSpot window - this will attempt to render the video and tell you if the correct codecs are installed.

If you can post a screen shot of the GSpot window after doing the above or post the results you get so we can see what is happening.

I think MEP may be glitching with the change of codec or the wrong codec being used to encode the video - I have had this with audio files but not video.

You will get the pulldown problem with the 29.97fps video I posted previously - how bad it will be depends on the content of the video clips.

Thanks John.

I have tried the software GSpot, and I have taken a screen shot of the result. I would like to send it to you, but cant see your email addres right now. Can you send it to me, and I will return it. Please send it to rune0207@gmail.com. See you!
