Chapter markers disappear

Mallgan wrote on 8/16/2013, 10:35 AM

I´m using Magix Movie Edit Pro MX and suddenly a problem has occured. After I have created chapter markers, closed the program and reopen it, the chapter markers are still there BUT every second marker has no contents and does not appear in the chapter menu. If I delete these "corrupt" markers and create new ones, the same thing happenes again after closing and reopening the program. And the reason cannot be that I have created too many markers, as I have created 40 markers. But, perhaps it is a result of the fact that the project at first was 2,5 hours long with more than 100 chapter markers, which I shortened to the final project (1,5 hours, 40 markers) and that the empty space on the timline, after the 1,5 hours-clips, is still there showing that the timeline is 2,5 hours long. And I cannot find any method to delete this empty timeline space.

Hi

I suspect the project file might be corrupt because

. . . . with more than 100 chapter markers, . . . .

is not allowed by the DVD specification - 99 chapters per movie is the maximum allowed.

Try removing all the chapter markers and then export the movie using File, Manage movies, Export and export the project - this will create a MVD file containing all the references to the clips and edits.

Start a new project (do not save the original project).

Use File, Manage movies, Delete movie from project to remove the empty timeline.

Select File, Manage movies, Import  and select the exported MVD file from above.

Add the chapter markers and save the project with a different name from the original.

To remove the empty space see image below and then press Alt + Del or select Edit range, Delete

Hi,

I'm curious to know why you'd want so many? Even a full 2 hour DVD with 66 chapters would imply an average duration of well under 2 minutes per chapter. And what DVD menu template would you use, assuming you don't have plans to design your own? In either case, I would expect that navigating the DVD from your TV remote would pose serious difficulties.

I see, I´m trying to find out how many chapter markers the Pro Premium 2013 version takes but the onlineguide does not answer this question. Anyone who knows? I am in need of at least 100 chapter markers as my film clips are short but serveral.

@ mallgan

. . . . I am in need of at least 100 chapter markers as my film clips are short but serveral. . . . .

The DVD specification is your limiting factor  - 99 chapters per movie is the maximum allowed.

Adding 100 or more chapters is not going to work once you create the disc - the limit is 99.

Chapters cannot be included in any exported video format that MEP supports.

I too am curious why you need so many - are the indivdual short movies of different topics?

A disc with 99 chapters is going to be unwieldy to navigate  - you will have one main menu and 12 - 17 chapter pages depending on the template you use.

Can they be broken down into specific topic related movies.

If so there is a way round this problem by splitting the disc into multiple movies each with a lower number of chapters.  See the bottom answer on this post and specifically note last paragraph.

Well, now I have tried a trial version of Premium 2013 and this program allows a lot more than 100 chapter markers so now I will buy this program and use it in the future. Thank you all for your help.
