Chapter Makers Not Recognized in 2022 Movie Studio Platinum

Michael-Hurn wrote on 12/1/2023, 5:25 PM

I have completed my project in 2022 Movie Studio Platinum Version 21.0.2.138. After reviewing the tutorial for burning to disc, I added Chapter Makers to my project. After saving my project, I went to the burn screen. I next clicked on the Preview button. I clicked on the Start button on the remote and my project started. However, when I clicked on the Next Chapter button, nothing happened. I next clicked on the Edit button and saw that under the heading Navigation only the top-level project was displayed. None of my Chapter Makers are being recognized. I deleted all Chapters Markers and then added them back in. The result was the same. How do I correct this problem so I can complete and burn to disc?

@Michael-Hurn

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

First, are you sure you are creating Chapter markers and not simply Markers? The latter serve a different purpose to the former. (My sincere apologies if you already knew this but we, fellow-users, have to start by asking the obvious!)

Can you also clarify exactly what you mean when you write that, after clicking on the Edit button ... only the top-level project was displayed? In Magix terms, a "project" is the complete movie. Your use of the term would suggest you actually have multiple projects to burn to disc. Is that correct?

Can you also show a screenshot similar to this one, which is an example of what the Chapter Markers actually look like in Timeline view? (This image is from a later version of the program but should be essentially the "same".)

@emmrecs

Jeff, Michael is referring to the Edit tab on the DVD Burn screen. Clicking on the + sign opens the tree to display all the chapters.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@AAProds

Hi Al,

I agree! It's just that his mention of project lead me to wonder if this was not a "standard" DVD output.

For me, clicking that button and then the + behaves as you say.

@Michael-Hurn

Hi

Do your chapter markers look like these on the timeline - I have renamed them.

If they are round markers then they are the Project markers as @emmrecs has mentioned.

In the Burn Edit view, if you have chapter markers, then they should appear as shown below when you exoand the top entry in the list by clicking the + sign in the small white square to the left of the name of the movie.

The chapters in the Navigation list should have a red check mark against their name(s) - if the red check mark is turned off then the Chapter(s) will not appear on the Chapter menu, and if none of them are checked then a Chapter menu will not be created.
