Cannot See Thumbnails or Waveform

brett-w wrote on 11/30/2023, 11:22 PM

While editing a project, I suddenly can no longer see the thumbnails of my video clips nor the waveforms of my audio in timeline mode. I've tried rebooting both the program and my compute and restoring settings to default. When I open other projects, they do not seem to be effected. I feel I must have accidentally toggled some project setting but I can't imagine what.

Hi

The most likely causes are:

The timeline track height is too small, or is zoomed out too far either vertically and/or horizontally so the objects on the timeline are not large enough for the thumbnails to be visible.

If neither of these are the issue, try resetting the program interface - select Window, Windows arrangement, Reset window arrangement or Standard.

If none of the above then we need more information to help diagnose the issue(s) you are having:

The specification of your computer system including Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) you are working with if this is a laptop.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the graphics card/integrated GPU drivers up to date?

A screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab  would help.

What video format, codec and resolution are you importing - to help with this download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips causing the issue and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

I had tried resetting the Windows arrangement before, but it unfortunately did not work then or now.  I tried manually adjusting the height as well to no avail. Here are my system specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8400 CPU @ 2.80GHz   2.81 GHz

Installed RAM: 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)

System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

OS Edition: Windows 11 Home

OS build: 22621.2715

Monito: Sceptre

Display Resolution: 1920 x 1080

Graphics

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

Driver Version: 536.99

Driver Type; DCH

Graphics clock: 1290

Memory data rate: 7.01 Gbps

Memor interface: 128-bit

Memory bandwidth: 112.13 GB/s

The video file is an .mp4; I'm fairly certain its not the file though because it worked until it suddenly didn't and when I pull it into a new project, it still works well.  I've attached a picture of program settings and of what I am seeing.

Hi,

You have zoomed completely out on the timeline of a long project with lots of objects. Use the horizontal slider, or the + button or the dropdown menu at the bottom right of the timeline to change the zoom factor on the timeline. Press the + button (the one at the bottom right of the timeline) several times and you'll soon see the images when the objects get large enough to show them.

If you press F, Ctrl+F or just Enter on the timeline or the left/right arrow button at the bottom right, the timeline will be "optimized" meaning it shows all objects from 0 to the end.

It looks like you may have also reduced the height of the tracks. There is a vertical scroll bar with - and + buttons to change the height of the tracks, and you can do this in the track header which you didn't show in your image.
