Cannot get MEP MX Plus V18 to accept MP4 files recorded by my Canon VIXIA HF R300 camcorder

OS: Windows XP
CPU: Inter(R) Corel(TM) 2 quad CPU Q6600 @2.40GHZ
RAM: 2.98 GB
DirectX: 9.0c
Grafik: NVIDIA GeForce 8600
Sound:  SoundMAX HD audio

Software: MEP MX Plus V18

I have recorded a short( 6.5 meg) test file (MPEG-4, hi def) from my Canon VIXIA HF R300, transfered it to my PC via USB connection, and played it successfully on the latest version of Real PLayer.  However I cannot load it into MEP. I have opened Media Pool, located the folder containing only that file and clicked on that folded. MEP immediately exits leaving me only with my desktop screen.  I have an old .MP4 file (low def) obtained elseware which MEP has no trouble with.  Any suggestions?

No concrete suggestions but I think the place to start is to get MediaInfo and GSpot (both free) to examine your troublesome file.  MediaInfo will show you which Codecs are used by your camera to produce the file and GSpot will tell you whether the appropriate codec for playback is installed on your system as well as making suggestions of what, on your system, might enable playback.  The fact that RealPlayer can play it may NOT be relevant to MEP since the codec(s) which RP use(s) may be proprietary and so not available to MEP.

Thanks Jeff.

MediaInfo told me my .MP4 file needed codecs AVC / mp42 and AVC / avc1 and audio codec AAC LC 40.

GSpot told me that I have to video codecs but nt the audio codec.

How do I get the audio codec and activate it in MEP?

My Problem is gone!

I went into help and clicked onto online updates and got four sets of updates and onr of them made my loading problem dissapear.

I am so used to programs telling me that I need an update that I never looked for updates in this case.

I went back to GSpot to see if I had missed AAC LC in my codec list.  It wasn't listed under the codecs but it was listed as a compression formula.

anyhow, I am good to go with a really nice video display from the higher def .MP4 videos.
