Cannot drag and drop in Sound Forge 10

I have a PC and a laptop with Sound Forge 10 on them. On my laptop, I can drag and drop audio files into the blank SF window. However, I am unable to do so on my PC. I have tried everything, to no avail. I want to be able to drag and drop on my PC. Even if there is a way to migrate the preferences from the laptop to the PC, that might solve this issue for me. Any ideas? TIA.

Welcome to the Magix Sound Forge forum @harry-a.

This sounds like (no pun) the 'Elevated Privilege' issue, which is common to SF-10 and occurs after 'some' Win 10 updates (on 'some' PCs). I am not aware of any rhyme or reason why this happens on some updates and PCs.. and not others.

Option 1: Try enabling, "Run this program as an administrator": Right-click the SF-10 <.exe> file or a shortcut and select 'Properties> Compatibility' and check the box. This usually requires a confirmation 'OK' dialog box though every time a file is added.

Option 2: if you are comfortable editing the registry. See this post.

Option 3: Uninstall and clean the registry of leftover folders, old reg entries and other pertinent data. I recommend using a third-party uninstaller which can do this without additional cleaning steps. Revo Uninstall for instance

Unfortunately, any of the above may need to be done again a some point when a Win 10 update forks it up. I had to do the reg tweak a few times on my Win 10 PC.

The Magix versions of SF do exhibit this occasional annoyance... neither do SF-9 and prior

Thank you so much for the response. No dice. I have been trying Option 1 for weeks, to no avail. Then, yesterday I did option 2 - tweaked the registry and even rebooted and went back to confirm the registry tweak was saved. But, still no luck. But the rub is that it works on the laptop without even starting it up as an admin! This is driving me nuts.

I did Option 3, too. No luck. I am confounded.

Are there any files/folders I can copy over from the laptop that might help? Just grasping at straws now. :-(
