Cannot Create a Fit to Width website version 18

Ingo-Kraemer wrote on 1/8/2022, 12:40 PM

I have Xara Web Designer Premium 18 and am attempting to make my website a "fit to width" site. The help manual says go to The FIT TO WIDTH ("UTILITIES" > "WEB EXPORT OPTIONS") option allows your website or web document to scale to fit the width of the browser or device screen it’s being viewed on.

There is no option like that under Utilities. How then do you create a "fit to width website"?

Thanks for any help out there.

Hi

. . . . There is no option like that under Utilities. How then do you create a "fit to width website"? . . . .

Try right click on a page and open the Web Properties dialog, then click on the Website tab - you should then see the Web Export option as shown below

Hello:

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately it did not quite address my problem.

Here is another way I would like to explain what the problem is, and I have provided a sample website that is part of Xara content.

In Xara web designer there is a website from the content option called "non-profit". If you preview the site in a browser, on the header section there is a picture of a sea turtle. If you then grab the lower right corner of the browser window and drag to make the window bigger, the sea turtle picture will maintain the entire width of the window and essentially zooms in on the picture. The picture always maintains the same height. Only the width changes as you enlarge or decrease the size of the browser window. This is great. However when I put one of my pictures in place of the sea turtle picture and do a preview in the browser, it does not exhibit the same behaviour as the stock website. When I increase the size of the browser window, my picture size stays the same.

I initially thought to go to "Web Properties" and select "Scale to fit width" maximum. This option does not work in the same way as the stock website. If you change the number of pixels min. to lets say 3000, and then preview and increase the browser window, the picture will increase in width from edge to edge, however it also increases the height proportionally. This behavior is not the same as the stock website where the height remains the same.

Since it seems every website on the internet changes the width of the picture, while maintaining the same height, I would suspect this ability in Xara in built in. The question is how is this done?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Best regards,

Hi

The size of the turtle image is bigger both in width and height then what you see, it is 2560 x 808 px .

Try with an image of the same size as the turtle image and drag and drop it onto the top of the turtle image to ensure it is replaced correctly.
