Cannot adjust bit rate

Movie Edit Pro 17 plus v 10.0.12.2 (UCI)

Platform - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with SP1 - Intel 2 core quad 2.5GHz - 4G RAM

The problem is that the bit rate will not adjust to allow the result to fit onto a regular 4.7G DVD-R disk. and this was working just fine the last time I used it which was about 2 months ago.

I have  two edited mpg clips in this project which produce 1hr 25m indicated which, with the menu system, shows used space as 4478/4482. It does not matter whether I then just accept this and click the box that appears to say 'Adjust' or I go to the Encoder Settings and click on Adapt Bit Rate the result is the same; after about 35 mins I get the message to say that the disk is not big enough and that I need 5.1GB - so 0.6G extra has suddenly appeared from nowhere. (When the system was working correctly the whole process took nearer an hour so something is not happening!!)

I have tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling but to no avail; I still have the problem.

If I produce a project that takes considerably less space then it burns without a problem. The difficulty I am facing is getting this program to adjust the bit rate which it fastidiously refuses to do.

A solution would be most welcome!

No answers? Perhaps I am used the wrong language in which to pose the question!

The answr is so simple - switch off the Smart Redering and verything works as it should.

With Smart Rendering engaged the bit rate will not be changed and the file overall increases in size so making it unable to fit on to a regular DVD disk.
