Can the newest MEP output a still frame image larger than 1920 X 1080

ericjar wrote on 11/15/2016, 7:12 AM

Sometimes I use MEP to edit stills or output a still frame from a video but the version I have (MXPlus) doesn't allow still output beyond HD 1920 X 1080 which is much below my usual camera output so wondering if the newer versions allow larger still output. I would assume so since they handle 4K.

This version works fine for me otherwise, also use Sony Vegas 11 Platinum but of course same limit there.

Thanks for any info.

Hi,

Normally the output size match the movie size if your original movie is 1920 x 1080 the frame size is same as movie. The problem is with 4K, to handle 4K the software must reduce the quality on the timeline. I suggest to play your movie on a 4K monitor and capture a frame directly using the snoop tool or similar software. You can try the demo version but i am quite sure on 4K that a short movie and not activate the proxy function.

Thanks that both helps me and doesn't :)

Yes I know  the output is generally matched to the movie parameters that was why I hoped that the newer version could outpu something larger than 1920X1080 since that is the limit of my current version of MEP.

I don't have a 4K TV nor do I expect to upgrade my wonderful Panasonic 3D HDTV, at least not for that reason. I don't think 4K TVs make much sense because of the limitation of human sight (techincal info and agreement of this with a CNet reviewer, and others) so that method won't work for me. I wouldn't have even gone out of my way to get cameras that shoot 4K but have a couple neverthelerss. I don't use tho since regardless of specs. my 1920X1080 video camera output looks much better than those do. Would be better if you have to crop of course having the increased resolution of 4K.

I hesitate to download something I won't use since I am in the country and have metered bandwidth, so I doubt I will download the new version to try, and I don't like installing and then uninstalling too many things either.

Maybe someone else can answer more directly but thanks for the suggestion :)

Hi

As far as I can see there is no limit to the resolution you can output. Just click the grey square with the 3 dots next to the resolution dropdown in John's screenshot and a window will open where you can type in the resolution of your stills. The entered res. will appear in the dropdown for ease of further exports.

It will compress the file again to a smaller size (MB) as is normal when saving a jpg but the resolution will be what ever you typed in.

I used MEP2014 Premium but they all should do it.
