Can't save mp3 in stereo?

I have used SF 8 for many years. Thought I'd try SoundForge 12 when I got my new computer, because I can't re-register my old SF 8 on the new one and lost the mp3 function. However, it seems that even with SF12 you cannot save an mp3 in stereo, only in mono. This doesn't make sense to me. I have certain clients I work with that need mp3 files in stereo. Seems pretty basic. Am I missing something? Can you really not save an mp3 in stereo with SF 12?

Don't know about SF AS-12, but Pro-12 basically has the same kbps and channel options as previous versions.. i.e., Mono, Dual channel, Stereo and Joint Stereo.
Confirm your desired settings in the 'Custom' menu when you select "Save as, MP3".

Otherwise the LAME encoder is a great alternative and has more options than the integrated Fraunhofer encoder. The WinLAME RC3 UI has more user options, HP filters, ect, ect. The preset file's code can even be modified for more tweaks.

I was using the PRO version, and it would only let me save in mono, not stereo. Others that I spoke with had the same issue. I went to the custom settings and for 320kbps, could only save in mono. I saw no work around for this. It was a big reason that I did not purchase the software, that and it would occasionally close down after a recording session and delete all audio. If it were not for those 2 things, I would have upgraded.

I will check out the LAME encoder. Thank you!

That may be a limitation of the SF demo. On earlier versions of SF, the Fraunhofer encoder needed to be registered separately, now it is done automatically when the SF app is authorized.. same w/ Vegas. Strange though.. normally, the maximum CBR mono channel format kbps is 128.

-  Were they using the SF demo? The only MP3 complaints with Pro 12 I recall, was slow encoding speeds, which was addressed with the Pro 12.1 update (build 170).
