Can't install Sound Forge Audio Studio 16 on Windows 10

Justin-Oakley wrote on 10/28/2022, 10:04 PM

I've tried with both the large installer as well as going to the specific sound forge installer file from the magix site. Both error the same way. It throws a dialog error saying "And error occurred which caused the transfer to stop. ... Click 'OK' to restart the installation transfer".

I've clicked "OK" multiple times, but it downloads a file to 100% then throws the same error again. Ultimately, I have to click "Cancel" and that's as far as it goes.

I have seen other people with the same issue posting on here and have tried the suggestions mentioned there. None of them have worked for me.

@Justin-Oakley The direct download links in the other topics didn't work?

@Justin-Oakley

(Perhaps a completely "off the wall" idea) but which version and build of Win 10 do you have? If it is Win 10 S, as I understand it you are limited to installing apps only from the Microsoft store.

The latest build of Win 10 is version 22H2, OS Build 19045.2130.

@Justin-Oakley, if you did not try the direct download as @SP. suggested, look in your "C:\Users\--user name--\Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager" folder and try to install from the Sound Forge <.exe> file there, assuming it fully downloaded (100%) which is usually the case even with the error message

btw, Jeff @emmrecs, thanks for the info on the Win 10/11 'S' version, I was not aware of it's existence.

@rraud

Hi Rick,

I was only very recently made aware of its existence and limitations!

Wow! So many replies in such a small amount of time. Thanks for all the assistance. To answer some questions:

1. Yes, I've tried the installation manager direct download link for sound forge and the other suggestions and it didn't work.

2. I'm running Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.19044 Build 19044. Or 21H2. OS Build 19044.2130

3. It did seem like it got to 100% and then failed. However, when I look in the installationsmanager folder (great tip, BTW), I see the installation file, but when I run it, I get the error message: "Failed to open the archive. It is possible the installer is corrupt.". It looks like the sound forge version it downloaded is: 16.1.0.47

It looks like the install file is truly bad. It seems odd that I would be the only one having this issue if that were the case though.

@rraudAlso, if there is a different direct download link for the sound forge 16 install file, where can I find that? I was able to get the "soundforgeaudiostudio10_dlm....." file from the Magix site with my license. But I didn't see any other files. If there is a different direct download link, let me know.

@Justin-Oakley I was talking about these links already mentioned in the other topics about the same problem. You couldn't download them?

http://dl04.magix.net/2022/SOUNDFORGEAudioStudio16/SOUND_FORGE_Audio_Studio_16.1.0.47_INT_x86_220914_08-48_7ABB9A29.exe  and  http://dl-de01.magix.net//2022/SOUNDFORGEAudioStudio16/SOUND_FORGE_Audio_Studio_16.1.0.47_INT_x64_220914_09-28_A0F7936A.exe

The forum converts the links automatically to a redirect page. You may need to copy the text(!) and paste it into the address bar of your internet browser to download the files. You also may to need to allow the downloads in your browser because the links are not using the https protocol. Your browser will probably block the downloads.

Ahh. I did not see those particular links. I will try those now. I was only able to find a direct link to the sound forge installer that lets you choose which programs to install. I'll try the link you posted. Thanks!

EDIT: That link worked! I must not have seen the post with those links, but only the other links. Thanks again!

The '... dim.exe' is the download manager and does not actually contain the files. To download and install, the user must select the desired items to download which puts them in the 'Documents\Magix Downloads folder' which usually starts to install before the download has complected, Unfortunately it has not been working right lately and throws the installation error.. though the download usually completes.
The direct link files are the same as the file(s) in the actual "Magix Downloads\Installationsmanager" folder. They direct download file does not contain any of the other items listed in the download manger (Ozone, Music Maker, Update Notifier and the 32 bit version of AS-16) If they are wanted, would need to be downloaded and installed separately. This bug should be fixed soon.
