can't crop video using section

mikecompetillo wrote on 4/22/2022, 2:54 PM

Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium Version 21.0.2.138 (UDP3) UG code 8463 KA1

Windows 10 on Dell

After freeing proportions and dragging the cursor to the corners I specify there seems to be no way or documentation on how to actually crop the video. In prior versions it used to work after hitting the enter button or clicking on size. Neither of these work consistently.

Hi

After setting the cursors, deselect the object on the timeline - the section effect will be applied.

If you do not want it full screen, uncheck that option in the effect before deselecting.

Mike, you have to click Preview to make the section crop. Then you can go to Size Position and Rotation and move it around/resize it.

Unfortunately, due to a bug which Magix knows about but hasn't fixed, if you go back to Section to re-adjust it, the original section will be reset and you'll have to set it all up again.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

if you go back to Section to re-adjust it, the original section will be reset and you'll have to set it all up again.

If you click on UNDO (can be up to 3 clicks) the section returns to what you initiallt set is as.

There is still a glitch which doesn't let it "take" the section wanted. Here is a work around I figured out...

When wanting to make a section selection in Magix that is a portion of the screen only, first select the video clip you want to adjust.
Then click the section button.
Then click the free proportions button.
Use the mouse to draw a square around the section you want.
Then click the preview button to make sure the section is properly centered.
Click the edit button again to further adjust exactly what you want selected.
Apparently there is a program glitch which causes it to not show exactly which section you have drawn around. Therefore you have to go back to the edit button and guess where that section should be positioned around the section. Do this again until you are satisfied with the selection of the section you want.
Then you need to click anywhere in the timeline and then click the size position button and then click the video clip on the timeline.
