Can someone explain what the Tap FX effect does?

I just got MMM 2015 last week and I'm an old rocker from the 60's. I discovered the "Tap" FX effect last night but it doesn't seem to do anything. What am doing wrong? Thanks

Where did you find this "tap" FX?

There is tapping for tempo recognition and taps on the plate reverb.

Read the text on this. One of the ways to help the program to identify the beat, speed and bar locations is to tap to the music.
