Can not record 32-bit float audio files (error message ...)

TimmyCrackCorn wrote on 2/2/2023, 11:44 AM

I have no problem doing this in Sound Forge 8, but trying in SF Audio Studio 14 it refuses to record 32-bit float audio. I get the following error message regardless of what audio driver (i.e. Audio Device type under Preferences) I choose. I have a Zoom F3 hooked up the system as a audio interface device. And even when I choose "Windows Classic Wave Driver" it says:

"One or more audio playback devices do not support the current sample rate and/or bit-depth."

I have the F3 selected for both INPUT and OUTPUT device from with in Windows 10 as well. SF Pro 8 has no problem with this, even using the soundcard as the playback device to analog speakers. Why can't I record 32-bit in SF 14?

Also, is there a better way (again, MUCH better and easier in SF 8) to select your input source rather than constantly having to change it in Windows?

Thanks.

Sorry, I do not currently have FP32 bit device to experiment with.

The default device, sample rate and bit depth can be changed in SFAS 'Internal' menu so it is the same when a new file is selected for recording.

Hi, Rraud. Thanks for that info, I will give that a shot!

I don't see an "internal" menu, and I can't find anything in the help where to set default options for recording.

don't see an "internal" menu,

That is because It is hidden...
Hold the 'Shift' key whilst clicking 'Preferences'. There will be an additional Tab for the "Internal" settings. The Internal menu also has a 'search' field to facilitate finding items.

Thanks, but I still can't seem to find it. I used the search to search for "source", "input", etc. and none of them find the proper setting. I know you are not a representative at Magix ... but WHY in the world did they make such a vital function so inconceivably poorly implemented? It was great in SF8 ... I don't understand the thinking here.

Change the sample rate field for the "New file" default.

The 'Mixer' and 'Engine' sample rates may have to be changed as well, which are in the same internal menu.

After making the changes, click a blank area in the (internal) window (important), Execute the change by clicking 'Apply> OK' and restart SF.

Thanks again, but that is not the problem ... there is no issue with changing the default file setup, but rather what the default HARDWARE input is ... there does not appear a way to do this any more. It's kind of inconceivable they would design newer software this way.
