Can I record MIDI tracks with MMM 2014 and a USB Midi Capable Keyboard

mrtrumpet wrote on 12/31/2013, 11:07 AM

I am considering purchasing MMM 2014 holiday bundle.  However, I am confused about whether I can record MIDI tracks from my keyboard with MIDI output and USB cables to my Win 7 PC.  From what I  can determine it seems like either MMM 2014 or MMM 2014 Premium may be required to do this.  Is this the case, or can I directly record MIDI tracks into MMM 2014?

Thanks.  Dave

Hi,

Yes, you should be able to record from your keyboard into MM2014. Go on the Magix site to the special offer screen, go to almost the bottom and click on More Information, then open the tab All Features to see what you can do with the program.

Thanks, John.  I tried that and did find a new page I hadn't seen before.  But, at least so far, it's not clear from any of the info Magix provides as to whether the program is capable of recording MIDI tracks directly from a MIDI capable instrument or controller.  It does say "record live audio," but nothing else.

Adding to the confusion is the fact the else where on the interwebs some are saying you need Samplitude or another Magix program to record MIDI tracks.  Needless to say it's frustrating.

Of course Magix customer service just bounces you to a recording saying call back later.  Gotta love it.

thanks again.

Dave

Just looked again.  It does say it has an "Integrated MIDI Editor
for creating your own melodies"  Do you take that to mean it will record MIDI input?

Hi Dave,

I looked again at All Features and it says:

Create your own songs
Simply combine loops using drag & drop and create your own hit tracks in a matter of minutes.
Connect a microphone, guitar or keyboard and make your own recordings in studio quality. There's no limit to the creative possibilities!

I agree that it doesn't say that it will record MIDI input, but it does. I don't have the regular version of MM2014, just the Premium version, but I do have the regular 2013 version. I have a Casio WK-225 keyboard. I plugged it into the computer, opened MM2013, made sure that the keyboard selected in the settings as the MIDI input device, set up my keyboard to send the sound to the computer (Local Off), selected an instrument on track 1, selected MIDI REC on track 1, and it worked, same as in the 2014 Premium version.

Download the trial version and try it out.

Regards,

John,

Thanks again.  I'm going to give it a shot.  It was between Sony Acid 9 and MM2014.  Since, as far as I can tell, Acid ( hasn't been updated since 2009 I'll hope Magix keeps product development and quality moving forward.

Happy New Year!
