can I copy channel from one project to another

darthdiver12 wrote on 5/25/2016, 8:11 PM

Can i copy a channel from one project to an empty one. I am trying to save it so I can apply the exact same effect to multiple projects.

Also, I was wondering if it is possible to extend the time that the premade captions stay on the screen. I would like to have the caption stay on the entire time not the 5 seconds it does automatically.

I am using movie edit pro 2016 and it is up to date. i am using widows 10 i5 with 6gb..

Hi

. . . . copy a channel . . . .

I presume you mean a timeline track - you can, however when you paste it into a new project you will also get all the video / image / audio objects as well which you would then have to copy the individual effects from, replace the object and then paste the effects back into the new object - very time consuming if there are a lot of objects in the track.

There are other ways of doing what you want depending on what the 'effect' you want is.

If it is a custom collage effect, ie not the standard collage effects available in MEP, then you can create the collage itself following this tutorial by Terrypin.

If it is keyframe animation / resize / positioning or video effect combination that is applied to all the objects on the timeline, you can right click the existing clip it is applied to and select Video Effects, Save video effects save the effect.  You can then reload this into other projects.

If none of these are what you want please gives us more detail on the effect(s) you want to re-use.

Could you please give us an example of the 'premade caption' you mean?

To be exact I am trying to extend the time of the excitment center caption.

I want to copy a logo with the effecs that i fit into excitment left caption from one project to another project.

None of my 29 title captions is called 'excitment center'. I have MEP 2014, so maybe it was added in 2015/2016? If so, I suggest you tell the 2016 users exactly where it is, i.e. how you navigated to it.

Hi

@ Terry

Excitment center was introduced with MEP 2016

@ darthdiver

. . . . I was wondering if it is possible to extend the time that the premade captions stay on the screen . . . .

Using the Excitement centre as an example - this is an animated caption so  time stretching the title object when it is on the screen will not work.

To have this appear animated, stay on the screen for a period of time then animate out again do the following:

  1. Starting with a new project - add the caption to the timeline, add any text other images etc

  2. Move the timeline cursor to the mid point of the caption and make a cut -  T key

  3. Drag the right hand portion to create a large gap

  4. Select the first half of the caption if not selected, the timeline marker should not have moved, right click and select Insert still image at playback marker

  5. Drag the insert image to the length you require and butt the end section of the animated caption up to the image.

  6. Save the project

  7. To use in other projects start the new project add at least one object to the timeline

  8. Locate the saved caption project (MVP file) and add it to the timeline - you will be asked if you want to close the current project select Add project

  9. The caption will now be on a second timeline from where you can copy and paste it into the new project, close / remove the Caption timeline by clicking the X on its tab and select Delete movie

Note if you want a video clip showing in the caption this will have to be added to each project using the caption seperately

ok so i got up to insert image and it did extend a bit but if I drag it it moves to whole new inserted section.

1. once i split the caption I moved the second half all the way to the end and then I went to insert still image.

2. now I go to the end of the new inserted image and try to drag it to the begining of the original second half and it            just moves the new part.

Am I missing something? I was under the impression that it would just drag out to the length that I would want it set at.

It is possible your mouse in the wrong mode - you need to set it to Single object mode - press the 6 key to select.

Select the image to be stretched and position the pouse pointer over the end of the image and drag it to the right  - the mouse pointer should change to a look like this when you are in the correct position to drag.

Ok so I got it to extend but it will only extend to the same length as the original caption.
