Burning Dual Layer DVD in MEP 2013

I've got a 2 hr 15 min. production I can't compress onto a single layer DVD in decent quality so I want to make an image file for dual layer DVDs.  I couldn't find any dual layer choices in the drop down, so I selected "Standard DVD NTSC Widescreen" & then adjusted the Bit Rate upwards so that the file size was a little under the capacity of a dual later disk (I used about 7.7 GB).  Is this the optimum way to create a dual layer image in Magix Pro Edit 2013?

Hi

You must have a dual layer DVD disc in your DVD writer (which must also support DL discs for writing).

MEP will automatically detect the dual layer disc and write the DVD accordingly.

Adjusting the bitrate upwards as you have done is OK,

Thanks John.  I had seen a previous response from last year stating the procedure of putting in a dual layer disk & letting MEP figure it out.  That procedure came back with a file size of about 6.6gb versus my manual adjustment bringing it to about 7 Gb.  I just wanted to make sure I was making the correct manual adjustment.  

After years with many other consumer level video editing software packages, I'm really enjoying the ease of this software.  It's just difficult finding as many tutorials or instructions as I could find for Sony Vegas.  I also hope they can quickly fix the bugs in DVD scene navigation menus (ie, edits of screen fonts don't always stick & scene navigation may work in preview but not when the disk is burned).

Interesting that in MEP 2015, it recognizes the dual layer DVD size but scales the DVD file size to 4481MB versus 8152 available on the DVD.  I went into the encoder settings and increased the bit rate to about 8000MB but after encoding & burning, it still only used half the disk space and the quality was poor.  

I've been very frustrated with MEP 2015 since I "upgraded" from MEP 2013 last year.  I've had nothing but problems that I never had (audio/video sync, reverse direction editing is stuttery, multi-cam is glitchy, menu didn't function when burned to bluray).  I've loved MEP ever since I switched a few years ago but I'm close to throwing in the towel because I've wasted so much time (and created so many coasters).
