Burning Disk

Ray-Lang wrote on 2/15/2025, 2:12 PM

I upgraded from Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus 2021 to Magix Studio 2025 Platinum thinking it would be better, but after using the new version I found out that if I put together a home video with chapters it works perfect on the Windows 10 PC in preview mode. The problem is that after I burn it to either DVD in AVCHD or a Blu-Ray it not only won't skip to chapters but will freeze if I even try, also freezes if I try to fast forward. I've contacted support about this and they either don't understand the problem or don't have a clue. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck. If anybody has the same issue I would like to hear if they have a fix please. My work around is that I've reverted back to Movie Edit Pro Plus and ever thing work fine.

@Ray-Lang

Hi

We need more information to help diagnose the issue(s) you are having:

  • Which disc menu template(s) are you using and are you making any changes to them?

  • The brand and type of discs you are using?

  • Are you burning direct to disc or using the Image recorder option to create an ISO file and then burning this to disc. If via ISO file which program are you using to burn the ISO file to disc?

  • Is the skipping occurring when playing the disc in a BD/DVD player, or only on the computer. If on computer, which software are using to play the disc?

  • How many chapters are there in the movie, and what is it total runtime?

Other information that may help:-

  • The specification of your computer system including Windows version and program version, see this topic https://www.magix.info/us/forum/please-do-the-following-before-posting-your-question--621831/ for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) you are working with if this is a laptop.

  • I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

  • Are the graphics card/integrated GPU drivers up to date?

Which disc menu template(s) are you using and are you making any changes to them?

 Answer: Using the Compass Template, only changing chapter and titles not graphics.

The brand and type of discs you are using?

Answer: Sony DVD's and Blu-rays

Are you burning direct to disc or using the Image recorder option to create an ISO file and then burning this to disc. If via ISO file which program are you using to burn the ISO file to disc?

Answer: Direct to disk

Is the skipping occurring when playing the disc in a BD/DVD player, or only on the computer. If on computer, which software are using to play the disc?

Answer: The disk I burn are not skipping, they freeze whenever I use fast forward or skip to another chapter. This happens when I play the disk in my BD/DVD player not computer. They seem to be fine in Magix 2025 Movie Platinum until I burn disk. I don't play finished disk with computer.

How many chapters are there in the movie, and what is it total runtime?

Answer: There are 9 chapters on the disk. Length is 2:20 Hrs.

Are the graphics card/integrated GPU drivers up to date?

Answer: Yes

And Lastly, did you read the part about every thing works fine in older version of Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus 2021?

@Ray-Lang

Hi

Thanks for the information and your computer specification, however you did not mention the disc type eg DVD-R, DVD+R, BD-R etc.

Are you in a PAL or NTSC TV standard region?

. . . . did you read the part about every thing works fine in older version . . .

Yes I did, this does not entirely eliminate potential issues with the 2 burners.

. . . . they freeze whenever I use fast forward or skip to another chapter . . .

Does the same occur when using VLC, or other software that is fully capable of playing discs, eg PowerDVD, on your computer?

If so to determine if the issue is with the direct to disc burn process try the following:-

  • Burn the project to an ISO image file using the Image recorder option in the burn dialog

  • Using Windows Explorer, right-click the ISO image file and select Mount this will create a virtual disk drive, check it plays OK in VLC, eject the virtual drive when finished, if this is OK then.

  • Burn the ISO image file using Windows File Explorer - right click the ISO file and select the Burn Image to disc option and test in the DVD/BD player.

Tried DVD-R, DVD+R, Blu-rays.

NTSC system

Tried to export video as ISO but that isn't what the Image recorder output. What I got was a Blu-ray folder named BDMV with all the structure files of a hard copy Blu-ray no ISO.

@Ray-Lang

Hi

The ISO file should be in the folder where you specified it to be saved, this is not necessarily the disc Images folder as specified in the program settings where the BDMV folder and files are.

Repeat the burn process up to the point where you name the image file, as shown below, the top bar will tell you where the ISO file from the previous burn is, the location will differ to mine , I am using a custom folder settings.

John thank you for the help. Here are screenshots of what I get when I use Image Recorder, 1st SS is of the BDMV folder it makes and the 2nd SS is what's in it. It never ask to make an ISO or actually makes an ISO in the folder I tell it.

@Ray-Lang

Hi

I suspect the reason why you are not getting the ISO file is because you are setting the Encode in directory option, shown below - this only creates the folders you are seeing.

Once you get to the dialog below click the Burn icon directly above the Encode in directory option, you will then be asked where the ISO file is to go.

VLC will also play the 'disc' files from the folders you indicated in your images above - see below.

John,

Thanks to that last post I did get a ISO to export and burned the ISO to a Blu-ray with Image Burn program. Burned and verified and still have same problem. I think we just need to forget this and I will roll back to the 2021 version that works. Maybe the 2026 version will fix whatever is wrong for me in the 2025 version. Thank you for trying to help.
