Burned DVD using MEP software will not play in DVD player

pmi123 wrote on 8/11/2015, 10:17 PM

I have Movie Edit Pro 2015 and have created a movie to burn to a DVD. Gone thru the process and click on burn and need to add chapters, so I add a chapter and click burn. It says it burned successfully but when I go to play it in DVD player, the player says "Cannot Playback this Disc". It will play in my computer just fine. Can anyone tell me what I need to do. If I export the file out as an MPEG file, the file size after exporting is 17.1 GB which is too large to burn to a disc.

Hi

Which options did you select to burn the DVD and what disc brand / type are you using?

Because the disc plays OK in the computer this would suggest that the disc is not compatible with the DVD player - the most common cause is using cheap discs.

. . . . If I export the file out as an MPEG file, the file size after exporting is 17.1 GB which is too large to burn to a disc . . . .

You cannot just burn a mpeg file to DVD disc to play in a DVD player - there are several support files created during the creation of a DVD which are necessary for the player to be able to play the movie.

Tip:

I use good quality rewriteable discs, DVD-RW or BD-RE, for the first burn, I often find a tweak of the movie is needed, so I can go back and do this and reburn to the DVD-RW or BD-RE.

Once the movie is good I then copy the rewriteable using Nero or ImgBurn onto good quality discs..

This saves money and avoids creating coasters.

I am using memorex. If I export it out as mpeg the file is a 17GB size, I have had to copy MPEG file to a laptop where I have Nero installed and it and it burns it making the file a 4.2 GB file size and it will play on DVD. I think setting else has to be the problem.

This is long, but I do not know what else I can do. I am assuming that this software, Movie Edit Pro 2015 was a software to create my DVD, and burn it to a DVD. I followed the steps in MEP 2015. I imported my video clips and photos and music. I made my edits and saved the file. The movie was 1 hr and 23 min. The .mvp file size is 2.18 MB. After saving the file, I click on the button that says Switches to the interface for burning"(top right corner of screen). Screen comes back with message The movie "Title" does not contain any chapter markers. You can create a chapter marker at the beginning of the movie or automatically create chapter markers at the beginning of each object. I made the selection of Only One Marker. Then it takes me to the Menu Screen and and it used the first picture in my movie for the chapter marker with a 1 on it.I insert a Memorex 4.7 GB DVD-R in my disc drive. Then I click the burn button which opens the burn dialog box where I make the Disc selection. I select DVD and the DVD Burning box opens showing 1) Burner:Lists D:MATSHITA DVD-RAM SW840 Burning speed 6x,  and clicking on the drop down arrow shows image recorder shows burning speed at 1x; 2) Disc format: DVD, Encoder settings: I do not change anything; 3) Burn process/start video encoding: Options: A check mark is next to Activate buffer underrun protection and check mark by DVD-compatible write at least 1GB, CD/DVD Title. I do not change anything in this Burn Options box; Add files shows 0.00 MB and I add my .mvp file which is 2.18 MB click close on add files box. The 0.00MB changes to 2.18 MB. Used space on media: 4020 MB/4489 MB. Then I click the burn button. A box opens up that reads VTS_01_VOB - Should the existing file be used for the film "? A check box by Rewrite chapter menu & chapter information, another check box by Rewrite film menusand navigation structures appears. No checks by either box is made. Buttons below Encode All, Encode, Use, Use all, and Cancel. Not sure what I should check on this. Click Encode All. Message says Burning was successful but still will not play in DVD player.  Now if I click on the button to select different options for finishing the movie (button top corner of screen far right) and select Output as a video file, I select DVD Quality and MPEG-2 and save it. It creates a file that is 17.2 GB. My program for burning CDs/DVDs came with my computer is Cyberlink – Power to Go.  When I insert a 4.7 GB disc it says file is to large, 8.5 GB same thing. I have to copy this mpeg file to an external hard drive and load it on to my laptop and burn it using NERO software. Evidently NERO compresses the file because it says it will fit on a 4.7 GB.  It burns successfully and I can play it in my DVD players.  I am not a technical savy computer person and muddle my way through learning this stuff.  I just got a new computer with Windows 8.1 and having to learn the computer all over, in addition to learning a this software program. I was operating on Windows XP.  This seems to be a lot of trouble to get my movie to play in a DVD player. I thought this program would allow me to create the program and burn it to a disc from everything I read.  I feel like I am not doing something right when I leave the editing portion and go to the burning portion that is why I have written this step by step so maybe someone might be able to help.

I am having the same issue.  This is not a case of quality of DVD disk.  I have been using the same DVDs that I used with Pinnacle studio for years, Sony DVDs.  They always played in a DVD player.  There is some issue with the Movie Edit Pro 2015 Program.  I desperately need to find out what the issue is, or I will go back to other programs.

pmi123 wrote on 10/5/2015, 1:27 PM

I don't know who responded below that said they were having the same issues.  I do not think it is the DVD either.  I have used Memorex DVDs on an old Sony computer with the software program "Click to DVD" and never had any problem with the DVDs playing in the DVD player. I agree with the person that said they think the problem is with Movie Edit Pro 2015. I too would like to know what the problem is or I will be forced to use another program.  I think I did a pretty good job detailing the steps that I used to create the DVD in my message. Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

PMI123, I am not sure if this community is even followed by Magix tech people.  Now, for all  this time, no one has even looked at or responded to our question.  I do not, and cannot use Movie Edit Pro becuase I use that kind of software to make DVD's to play in a DVD player.  Since the help in doing it correctly is not being given, I guess we need to use some other software.

I too am having this problem. When I ued MEP14 it worked fine. But with 2015 I am having all kinds of issues. Including it is a lot harder to use.
