1. YES-burner supports dual layer discs. When I bought it July 2014 the 2nd layer burned PERFECTLY. Started having this problem a few months back.
2. I'm using a Verbatim brand 50-gig 2X disc (BD-RE DL). Other problem is it burns at only 1X despite being a 2X disc.
3. Not exactly sure what MEP is, but the error message (as long and confusing as it is) towards the end, says something about a "synch" error, or something like that. I can set up a burn and let it deliberately crash to get the info if desired.
4. I don't go by the lenget of the timeline; rather I go by the total size of the video file(s). It's a 50-gig disc, but with formatting it takes 46.196 gigs, so I keep the cumulative file sizes under that. That always worked for me, as I use different bitrates, depending on the quality I desire-and how much I want to fit on the disc. It still functions as a single layer disc, as long as I keep total of file sizes below 22.586 gigs (what a typical 25-gig disc normally accepts.

This would indicate something has changed - eg different type or brand of disc.
Is the burner a LG BH10LS or NS model?
Are the Verbatim BD-RE DL the LTH version?
Try updating your Burn routines - the latest version are here.
Have you successfully burned dual layer with this disc type before?
MEP = Movie Edit Pro.

The default settings for in MEP for burning to disc are the optimised for best quality, length of play time etc. Increasing the bitrates may cause issues with players not being able to play the discs.
The BD burner is I/O Magic model BD 14C, and designed to handle dual layer discs. As I said, I NEVER had a problem before, regardless of encode bitrate or length of vids, as long as I stayed within the 46.196-gig max. I only have the one Verbatim dual layer BD-RE, but nothing says LTH on it; just SERL (whatever that might mean). Fact remains, I NEVER had a problem with disc or burner until a few months back. OK-MEP is your abbreviation for Movie Edit Pro-I never referred to it that way in conversation, so please forgive me on that. That is the software I'm using.
From July 2014 till Sept 2015 I've NEVER had a problem whatsoever, despite my mishmash of bitrates or videos. All burned PERFECTLY! Had NOTHING but success all that time! In all my burning (blu-ray or DVD) the length of the timeline(s) NEVER mattered-only the total size of the encode files. As long as I stayed within the disc's max, I was fine.
I do have other blu-ray burning software I'll try. Not as fancy as 'MEP' but will def help determine where the problem is. Busy with something else now, but soon as I can, I'll set up a test burn w/the other software and see what happens. That'll for sure pinpoint my problem. Tried using the link about the latest version, but I get a message saying it's not private, and thus and so I'm a little leary about going to it. Have you tried it? If you have, any success?
