Buring a Video

nmartens wrote on 10/29/2022, 9:28 PM

I'm using Movie Edit Pro Plus 2013. I know, a little behind the times.

I'm trying to burn a video and I get an error saying it required 5772MB of disc. I'm attempting to burn to a standard DVD which stores 4.7MB or 120 minutes. And my movie is 1:03:26 long.

I don't even know where to begin in capturing screen for you so please give me the appropriate instructions to capturing the settings you need to see that make it think it can't fit on my DVD disc. And be specific with the instructions so that I can be sure I'm looking at the proper screen.

Thank you.

Hi

I have moved your question to the correct section of the forum - Movie Edit Pro (MEP) is now called Movie Studio as is the forum section for MEP.

. . . . I'm trying to burn a video and I get an error saying it required 5772MB of disc. I'm attempting to burn to a standard DVD which stores 4.7MB or 120 minutes. And my movie is 1:03:26 long. . . . .

Assuming you are selecting DVD when you click the Burn button, When you get the dialog saying the disc requirement is greater than the disc capacity it should contain an option to automatically adjust the bitrate settings to fit the movie to disc.

did you click the Adjust option?

Also check that the movie is truly about ~1 hr long, there may be a stray object at a later time which is causing the issue - press the End key the timeline cursor will jump to the true end of the movie.

If there is a stray object then select a Range from the real end of the movie to the actual end of the timeline and press Alt + Del to remove the excess.

Do note that if you selected the Blu-Ray or AVCHD burn options, although you can burn these to DVD disc, and they will play in a BD player, you are limited to a movie runtime of 25 - 30 mins.

Ok, I'm not sure what changed but I reloaded the project and went through the burn steps again and this time it created the disc. I didn't have to change anything. The 'disc information' screen showed the movie would git on the media, now. But here's something interesting. On the 'DVD Burning' window, the 'Used space indicator' say I'm using 1592 MB on the media. Even though the DVD drawer is open. Can you tell me it's trying to say to me?

But it raised another question. Playing the disc shows my movie title with a triangle next to it. The menu only appears as an ICON under the title. If I click it, my menu appears. How do I get the menu to appear on the title page when I play the disc?

Thanks.

Hi

. . . . the 'Used space indicator' say I'm using 1592 MB on the media. Even though the DVD drawer is open . . . .

The used space indicator value is calculated from the timeline irrespective of the type of disc (single or dual layer) is available

Can you post a screen shot of the menu showing the triangle, which disc menu template did you use and did you make any modifications to it?
