Buggy. Laggy. Noisy.

I have been a fan of Sound forge ever since version 5.0. In fact, it was a really cool software back then with the ability to even do multi track editing and mixing which was then removed in later versions as part of a licensing and sales gimmick.

Unfortunately, I have seen a slow decline in quality of this otherwise cool product. Typical of great products that die a slow death after being acquired by someone else. I had the 11 pro for a few years and then tried the Audio studio 16. Most recently, I purchased the Sound Forge Pro 16 and can't believe how buggy it has become. It crashes randomly, causing loss of time spent in edits, especially while applying filters (I have opted to send the log files to magix but I know nobody looks at them). My BIGGEST ANGUISH is that these days the program seems to be introducing crackling noise during processing. Record - fine. playback -fine. do 'anything' to the audio, including just removing silences and saving, I see crackles getting introduced!! ruined my podcast as I couldn't even clean them (remove click/pop etc didn't work).

Same original file, when trimmed using Adobe Audition, sounds just fine. After trying everything, I thought maybe I should try an uninstall and clean install. And guess what, I get a download speed of 90KBPS. YUP. With a 'K'. I wish I can explain the sadness in my heart.

Soundforge probably just lost one of its most ardent fans. I know only some hard working tech support folks look at forums, none of the salesy folks or the decision makers will have any clues what's going on with customers.... so... no expectations, just had to vent.

@Vinayak-Raghuvamshi Sound Forge 15 works pretty good without massive issues. As far as I know version 16 changed the VST engine and introduced major bugs which aren't solved yet.

You could ask customer support at infoservice@magix.net if you can get a free license for version 15 so you can at least work. If I remember it correctly support already offered this to other users in the past.

The download servers are currently down. The server problems are happening for some days now. Not sure what the cause is.

I read in the news that massive cyber attacks are happening in some European countries at the moment. For example, it seems Italy lost 75% internet traffic because of this. I don't know if this causes problems with Magix servers as well. Probably not.

The direct download of the 'unpacked' installer worked good last night when I tested it.. 900 MB in a few minutes. Downloading with the installation manager did not get beyond 0% progress for thirty minutes or so. The issue seems to be downloading using the installation manager, maybe it comes from a different server. Try:
http://dl-de01.magix.net//2022/SOUNDFORGEAudioStudio16/SOUND_FORGE_Audio_Studio_16.1.0.47_INT_x64_220914_09-28_A0F7936A.exe

btw, intermittent noises are usually the result of a lossy file type (mp3 for instance) with proxy disabled. If this is the case, go to "Options> Preferences> General" and enable 'Always proxy compressed formats'.
Otherwise SFAS-16 is solid, aside from the aforementioned VST issues, which are in the process of being resolved.

Hi, @Vinayak-Raghuvamshi

I agree with everything you've said. Sound Forge is still a good software, even though it got worse in the latest version (v16). But if the problems are not fixed, many people will give up. If Magix doesn't solve the problems, Sound Forge will be just a memory. But one day everything ends, not even life is eternal.

So I just updated to the latest version, prompted by SFP updater. Now I have 16.1.3. And it already crashed, without me even starting my editing. I have been a software developer for many years and I can say that the exception clearly shows a poorly written C++ code that doesn't have necessary NULL checks. Sigh. I am still waiting for Magix customer support to at least give me the license for SFP 15 so that I can at least finish my work on my podcasts....

Although I appreciate your intent to help, we all know the 0xC00000005 is pretty much

A NULL pointer exception. If it was an issue with file system, Ram, etc then you would wonder why only SFP16 is impacted. My Adobe Audition, Ableton, Pinnacle Studio,.... Everything else works. If you see the log file in the dump I sent, it is clearly an application issue.

Not sure if it makes a difference, but I work for Microsoft and am intimately familiar with the development stack, exceptions and their documentation.

On my PC, Adobe Audition works great. The same does not happen with Sound Forge. Magix directors should take a better look at the developers and the work environment.
